...BLIZZARD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM AKDT FRIDAY FOR
TOKSOOK BAY...
* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected for Toksook Bay. Total snow
accumulations of up to two to four inches. A mix of freezing
rain and snow is possible near Bethel with light icing.
* WHERE...Kuskokwim Coast, mainly in the Toksook Bay area.
* WHEN...Until 6 AM AKDT Friday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Toksook Bay continues to see snow and gusty
conditions this afternoon with visibility down to one quarter
mile. Winds will remain elevated through the morning hours on
Friday and guidance suggests snow will also persist or redevelop
through the overnight hours. Thus, blizzard conditions will also
continue off and on through tonight. Deteriorated conditions may
briefly spread into Nunivak Island and Mekoryuk on Friday
morning before winds region wide diminish and snow gradually
comes to an end. Finally, temperatures have dropped to below
freezing in Bethel with rain reported. A mix of freezing rain
and snow will be possible into tonight with light icing on
surfaces.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel very hazardous. If you must travel,
have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay
with your vehicle.
