...September Climate Summary...

...Wichita...
The main story was well above normal precipitation, with 11.30
inches tallied at Eisenhower National Airport. This was 8.16
inches above normal for the month. It was Wichita`s 2nd wettest
September since records began in 1888, behind only 2008`s 12.96
inch total. 8.85 inches fell on the 8th and 9th, making it
Wichita`s 3rd highest 2-day total on record. Additionally, the
5.39 inches on the 9th set a rainfall record for that day. In the
temperature department, the average monthly temperature was 73.6
degrees, 2.6 degrees above normal, making it the 30th warmest
September on record.

...Chanute...
Precipitation was above normal for September, but not nearly to
the extent of Wichita. The monthly total at Chanute Martin-
Johnson Airport was 6.91 inches, 3.24 inches above normal. It was
the 25th wettest September since records began in 1898. 4.08
inches occurred on the 8th and 9th, but was no where close to a
2-day record. In the temperature department, the average monthly
temperature was 73.1 degrees, 3.2 degrees above normal, making it
the 26th warmest September on record.

...Salina...
In stark contrast to Wichita and Chanute, Salina`s September
precipitation was well below normal, tallying only 1.20 inches at
the Municipal Airport (1.50 inches below normal), making it the
17th driest September since 1948. However, like the other sites,
warmer than normal temperatures prevailed, with an average monthly
temperature of 73.1 degrees (2.9 degrees above normal), which tied
for 11th warmest September since 1948. A record high temperature
of 96 degrees was set on the 20th, with record warm lows of 76 and
75 degrees set on the 7th and 21st, respectively.
