...DRY AUGUST AT SOUTH BEND...WITH NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES...

AUGUST STARTED OUT WITH NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND RELATIVELY DRY
CONDITIONS AT SOUTH BEND. DURING THE 12 DAYS OF THE MONTH...HIGH
TEMPERATURES GENERALLY RANGED FROM THE UPPER 70S TO MID 80S...ASIDE
FROM A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 94 DEGREES ON THE 2ND...WHICH WAS THE
WARMEST DAY OF 2015 AT SOUTH BEND TO DATE. THERE WERE ONLY THREE
DAYS WITH MEASURABLE RAINFALL IN THE FIRST 16 DAYS OF THE
MONTH...ONLY TOTALING 0.90 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION.

A MORE TUMULTUOUS PATTERN DEVELOPED DURING THE LAST HALF OF THE
MONTH. AFTER A STRETCH OF ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES FROM THE 13TH
THROUGH THE 19TH...TEMPERATURES WERE WELL BELOW NORMAL FROM THE 20TH
THROUGH THE 28TH...RECOVERING TO NEAR NORMAL BY THE END OF THE
MONTH. SOUTH BEND ALSO HAD 6 DAYS OF MEASURABLE RAINFALL FROM THE
15TH THROUGH THE END OF THE MONTH.

THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE WAS 70.5 DEGREES...ONLY 0.8 DEGREES
BELOW NORMAL. THIS WAS THE T-44TH COOLEST AUGUST ON RECORD. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE WAS 94 ON THE 2ND...AND THE COOLEST TEMPERATURE
WAS 47 ON THE 27TH.

AUGUST PRECIPITATION AT SOUTH BEND TOTALED 2.32 INCHES...1.44 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL. THIS RANKED AS THE 36TH DRIEST AUGUST ON RECORD. THE
GREATEST 24 HOUR PRECIPITATION WAS 0.55 INCHES ON THE 23RD. THERE
WERE ONLY 9 DAYS WITH MEASURABLE RAINFALL IN AUGUST.
