...SPRING FLOOD OUTLOOK FOR EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA...

EXISTING CONDITIONS...

RAINFALL...
RAINFALL WAS NEAR TO BELOW NORMAL ACROSS MUCH OF THE NORTHERN AND
CENTRAL SECTIONS OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA THIS WINTER SEASON. THE
EXCEPTION WAS ALONG THE TREASURE COAST WHERE MANY LOCATIONS WERE
ABOVE NORMAL AND A FEW LOCATIONS RECEIVED MORE THAN DOUBLE THE
NORMAL RAINFALL FOR THE MONTHS OF DECEMBER...JANUARY AND FEBRUARY.
MUCH OF THESE HIGH RAIN TOTALS WERE DUE TO A HEAVY RAINFALL EVENT
THAT OCCURRED IN JANUARY.

SOIL MOISTURE...
THE KEETCH-BYRAM DROUGHT INDEX (KBDI) WHICH IS AN INDICATOR OF
SOIL DRYNESS SHOWS SOIL CONDITIONS RANGING FROM NORMAL TO MODERATE
DRYNESS FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.

GROUND WATER CONDITIONS...
GROUNDWATER LEVELS RANGE FROM NORMAL TO ABOVE NORMAL ALONG THE
TREASURE COAST...AND NORMAL TO BELOW NORMAL ACROSS THE INTERIOR
SECTIONS NEAR THE I-4 CORRIDOR.

RIVER FLOWS...
NEAR NORMAL STREAMFLOW IS BEING REPORTED ACROSS MUCH OF THE CENTRAL
FLORIDA WATERSHEDS.

OUTLOOKS...

METEOROLOGICAL OUTLOOK...
THE LATEST CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER (CPC) OUTLOOK THROUGH THE END
OF MARCH INDICATES EQUAL CHANCES OF ABOVE...NORMAL OR BELOW NORMAL
RAINFALL THROUGH THE END OF MARCH.

LONG TERM OUTLOOK...
THE LATEST CPC THREE MONTH OUTLOOK FOR THE PERIOD MARCH THROUGH MAY
ALSO INDICATES EQUAL CHANCES OF ABOVE...NORMAL OR BELOW NORMAL
RAINFALL IN EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA THROUGH THE END OF MAY.

SPRING FLOOD OUTLOOK...
BASED ON THE CURRENT HYDROLOGIC CONDITIONS FROM THE WINTER SEASON...
HISTORICAL RIVER FLOOD CLIMATOLOGY AND UNCERTAINTY IN RAINFALL THIS
SPRING...THE POTENTIAL FOR RIVER FLOODING THIS SPRING IN EAST
CENTRAL FLORIDA WILL BE NEAR TO BELOW NORMAL.
