Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
254 AM CDT Tue Apr 16 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated and near critical fire weather conditions are expected
to develop this afternoon across Southeast New Mexico and most of
West Texas given continued very dry, warm, and breezy conditions.
Winds today will be lighter than yesterday, around 10-20 mph with
some higher gusts, particularly across the mountains. The lighter
winds will temper fire weather concerns somewhat, precluding critical
conditions, even as ERCs tick up closer to or surpass the 90th
percentile. IA will be the primary concern, with elevated conditions
continuing each day through Thursday as warm and very dry conditions
persist. A cold front will bring cooler temperatures and increased
moisture Friday through the weekend, with widespread wetting rains
possible Saturday and Sunday.

Service Office.
