FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
304 PM PDT THU AUG 28 2014

...DRY COLD FRONT INCREASING WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS TODAY...
...TEMPERATURES TURNING COOLER FOR THE WEEKEND...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A DRY COLD FRONT IS MOVING ACROSS THE
PACIFIC NORTHWEST...BRINGING GUSTY BUT RATHER DRY WESTERLY WINDS TO
THE DISTRICT. EVENTUALLY THE MARINE LAYER WILL DEEPEN SIGNIFICANTLY
TONIGHT...WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES AND FAIRLY WIDESPREAD MORNING
CLOUDS FRIDAY. AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL PUSH TEMPERATURES BELOW
NORMAL WITH A FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND...MAINLY NORTH.

.DISCUSSION...A DRY COLD FRONT IS MOVING ACROSS THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST TODAY...CAUSING WESTERLY WINDS TO INCREASE ACROSS THE
REGION. SO FAR CONDITIONS REMAIN DRY IN THE CASCADES...AND IT
WILL LIKELY TAKE UNTIL FRIDAY MORNING FOR A DEEPENING MARINE LAYER
TO REACH THAT FAR INLAND. HOWEVER THIS FRONT IS ALREADY BRINGING A
BIT OF A COOLDOWN VERSUS WEDNESDAY...AND THIS COOLING TREND WILL
CONTINUE WITH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES EXPECTED FOR THE LABOR DAY
WEEKEND. THE DEEPENING MARINE LAYER AND ONSHORE FLOW WILL LIKELY
PUSH A MORE SOLID DECK OF COASTAL LOW CLOUDS WELL INTO THE CASCADES
LATE TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING...AND AGAIN FRIDAY NIGHT/SATURDAY
MORNING. STRONG ONSHORE PRESSURE GRADIENTS WILL CONTINUE TO RESULT
IN BREEZY WEST WINDS...ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE COLUMBIA GORGE AND
OVER THE CASCADE RIDGES. AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WILL
SETTLE OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS...WITH
WEAK DISTURBANCES BRINGING THE OCCASIONAL CHANCE FOR A SHOWER OR
TWO...MAINLY FOR OUR NORTHERN ZONES. WEAGLE
