Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
521 AM EST Tue Feb 28 2017

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure along the Mid-Atlantic coast will continue to move
farther east and away from the region. A warm front, located across
the southeast states this morning, will lift northward through
the day in association with a weak upper-level disturbance
tracking toward the Ohio Valley. Increasing dewpoints and the
threat for showers will accompany the passage of the warm front.

On Wednesday, a strong cold front will approach the Mid-Atlantic
region from the west, crossing the mountains during the afternoon,
then progressing east across the piedmont during the evening.
This front will be accompanied by a line of thunderstorms with
gusty winds. Rainfall amounts of a quarter /0.25/ to three
quarters /0.75/ of an inch are expected. Temperatures Wednesday
will be well above the seasonal norm.

The rain will come to an end with the passage of the front,
followed by cooling temperatures and an 18 to 24 hour period of
gusty northwest winds.
