DAILY RIVER AND LAKE SUMMARY
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BLACKSBURG VA
1040 AM EDT WED AUG 20 2014

BASIN AVERAGE RAINFALL DURING THE PAST 24 HOURS WAS VARIABLE.
AMOUNTS RANGED FROM ONE HALF TO THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH ACROSS
THE YADKIN AND JAMES RIVER BASINS...BUT AMOUNTS OF ONE TO TWO
TENTHS OF AN INCH WERE MORE COMMON ELSEWHERE. RAINFALL DURING
THE NEXT THREE DAYS WILL CONTINUE TO BE VARIABLE SINCE THE
EXACT TIMING AND LOCATION OF THUNDERSTORMS IS NOT CERTAIN...
THOUGH SOME LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN IS EXPECTED. AS A RESULT...EXPECT
MINOR FLUCTUATIONS TO SMALL RISES IN LEVELS ALONG AREA WATERWAYS
THROUGH THE FORECAST PERIOD.

NOTE...A PULSE RELEASE WAS CONDUCTED AT GATHRIGHT DAM THIS MORNING.
THIS WILL RESULT IN A RAPID RISE ALONG THE JACKSON RIVER AT
COVINGTON LATE TODAY...FOLLOWED BY RISES AT DOWNSTREAM POINTS ON
THE JAMES RIVER OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
