URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Duluth MN
1031 AM CDT Wed Apr 26 2017

...ICE STORM FOR PARTS OF THE ARROWHEAD TODAY...AND A WINTRY
MIXTURE FOR OTHER PARTS OF NORTHEAST MINNESOTA AND NORTHWEST
WISCONSIN...

.The Northland will see a complex weather situation continue
today and tonight. A surge of warm and humid air aloft from the
south will combine with cold surface air coming from Canada. This
combination will continue to result in a wintry mixture of
freezing rain, sleet, and snow for much of northeast Minnesota and
parts of northwest Wisconsin. Portions of the Minnesota Arrowhead
continue to face an ice storm and could accumulate as much as
three quarters of an inch of icing from freezing rain. Lighter
amounts of freezing rain, as well as some sleet and light snow,
are likely for other parts of northeast Minnesota, including the
Twin Ports area, and northwest Wisconsin. Gusty north to
northeast winds through early this evening could bring down icy
trees branches, and pose a risk of power outages, especially near
the tip of the Arrowhead. The precipitation will generally begin
to lift north out of the Northland this afternoon, with lighter
amounts lingering for tonight and early Thursday. Motorists should
be prepared for difficult travel conditions to continue today
through early Thursday.

expected or occurring. Significant amounts of ice accumulations
will make travel dangerous or impossible. Travel is strongly
discouraged. Commerce will likely be severely impacted. If you
must travel...keep an extra flashlight...food...and water in your

likely lead to snapped power lines and falling tree branches that
add to the danger.
