Weather Summary for Portions of the Central Plains

An overall dry and warmer weekend is expected across the area.
Looking at today...expecting generally partly cloudy skies...and a
few isolated showers and weak thunderstorm will be possible during
the peak heating hours of this afternoon. Gusty southwesterly winds
of 15 to 25 MPH are forecast...with the strongest speeds across the
southeastern half of the area...and high temperatures will be
climbing into the 80s. Near critical to critical fire weather
conditions are possible this afternoon...and a Red Flag Warning is
in effect for portions of north central Kansas. Sunday remains
dry...with partly cloudy skies and highs again in the 80s. Winds
look to be lighter...closer to 10 to 15 MPH and out of the east to
northeast. A strong upper level system crossing the Plains will
bring increasing chances for thunderstorms to the area on Monday.
Some storms during the evening and overnight hours could be strong
to severe...with large hail and damaging wind gusts looking to be
the primary hazards. High temperatures on Monday are forecast to
reach the low to mid 80s...with strong southeasterly winds around 20
to 30 MPH. Chances for showers and storms will continue on into
Tuesday...with cooler highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s and gusty
northwest winds of 15 to 25 MPH. Dry conditions are expected for
Wednesday...with highs remaining in the 60s and gusty northwest
winds.
