.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 318 AM CDT Wed Mar 27 2024

Flurries are still falling early this morning on the backside of the
impactful winter system we`ve been dealing with for the past 72
hours. Forecast soundings indicate flurries/light snow showers will
continue throughout the day today, particularly across
central/eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin as the upper low
moves through. When combined with highs in the 20s, today will
feel more like mid February rather than the last week of March.
Clouds will clear overnight and with the recent snow pack,
temperatures will plummet into the teens and single digits with
some below zero readings across western Minnesota. Clear and
cool conditions persist into Thursday, but temperatures will
begin to moderate as a ridge moves overhead late Thursday.
Precip chances return Friday as a weak shortwave on the backside
of this ridge passes through. P-type could be an issue with a
rain/snow mix and a low chance for some sleet/freezing rain. QPF
amounts are only on the order of a few hundredths.

Temperatures Saturday through early next week will be fairly steady
with highs in the mid 30s west to near 50 south and east and lows
near/below freezing. Precip chances increase by the second half of
the weekend with another round of rain possibly mixed with snow
through the start of April. The current model consensus has the
track of this system across Iowa/Missouri, leading to the
higher QPF amounts to favor the southern half of the forecast
area, but there is still plenty of time for shifts in this
track.
