AUGUST BEGAN WITH SOME WARM AND HUMID WEATHER, WITH A HIGH
TEMPERATURE OF 87 DEGREES ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH. AFTER A FEW
DAYS OF COOLER WEATHER, THE WARM WEATHER RETURNED AGAIN AND LASTED
THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH. THERE WAS ONE NOTABLE EXCEPTION
WHEN A FRONTAL SYSTEM BROUGHT MORE THAN 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN ON THE
18TH, HOLDING THE TEMPERATURE IN THE 60S THAT DAY. ALTHOUGH MUCH OF
THIS PERIOD SAW WARM TEMPERATURES, THERE WAS A LACK OF ANY TRULY HOT
WEATHER. THE WEATHER PATTERN BEGAN TO SHIFT AGAIN LATE IN THE MONTH
WITH A TREND TOWARD COOLER AND DRIER WEATHER, ENDING THE MONTH WITH
7 STRAIGHT DAYS OF BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 68.7 DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.1
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE WARMEST AUGUST ON RECORD WAS IN 2001 WHEN
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 72.1 DEGREES. THE COOLEST WAS IN 2008 AT
ONLY 66.0 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 2.63 INCHES OF RAIN FELL WHICH WAS 0.96 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. MORE THAN HALF OF THIS TOTAL FELL IN A SINGLE DAY WHEN 1.71
INCHES WAS RECORDED ON THE 18TH. THE DRIEST AUGUST WAS IN 1996 WHEN
ONLY 0.16 INCHES OF RAIN WAS RECORDED. THE WETTEST WAS IN 2011 WHEN
8.19 INCHES FELL.
