THE METEOROLOGICAL SUMMER (JUN-AUG) WAS A BIT OF A ROLLER COASTER
FOR THE HAVRE AREA. THE SUMMER STARTED WARM AND DRY IN JUNE...THEN
TURNED WETTER AND A BIT COOLER IN JULY. AUGUST ENDED UP CLOSE TO
NORMAL WITH TEMPERATURES...BUT DRIER THAN NORMAL WITH PRECIPITATION.
ELSEWHERE ACROSS CENTRAL MONTANA...MANY AREAS WERE WARMER AND DRIER
THAN NORMAL. THESE CONDITIONS CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO AN UPPER LEVEL
HIGH THAT REPEATEDLY BUILT BACK INTO THE WESTERN US. THIS ALONG WITH
SEVERAL FIRES IN THE REGION LEAD TO SEVERAL DAYS WITH REDUCED
VISIBILITY AND LOWER AIR QUALITY DUE TO SMOKE. INTERESTINGLY...THE
NUMBER OF HOURS OF REDUCED VISIBILITY AT HAVRE DUE TO SMOKE WAS THE
HIGHEST SINCE 1980.
