...JULY WAS COOLER AND SLIGHTLY DRIER THAN NORMAL IN NORFOLK...

UNLIKE AREAS FURTHER SOUTH...NORFOLK LEANED COOL AND DRY IN JULY.
THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 74.1 DEGRES WAS 0.9 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL AND THE 41ST COOLEST JULY ON RECORD. THE 2.88 INCHES OF RAIN
WAS 0.44 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

JULY GOT OFF TO A COOL START...WITH THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE OF THE
MONTH ON THE 1ST AT 50 DEGREES AND THE LOWEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OF
THE MONTH ON THE 2ND AT 64 DEGREES...A DAILY RECORD COOL MAXIMUM
TEMPERATURE.  THE RECORD COOL MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE ALSO WAS SET ON
THE 3RD...AT 68 DEGREES. A COOL 1.10 INCHES OF RAIN FELL ON THE
2ND...WITH NO THUNDER. TEMPERATURES STAYED MAINLY WITHIN A FEW
DEGREES OF NORMAL FROM THE 5TH THROUGH THE 13TH. AFTER THREE DAYS OF
RAIN ON THE 5TH TO THE 7TH...CONDITIONS REMAINED DRY THROUGH THE
14TH. TEMPERATURES FELL BELOW NORMAL ON THE 14TH TO 16TH...WITH A
RETURN TO WARMER WEATHER ON THE 17TH TO 23RD.

A HEAT WAVE BROUGHT MUCH ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPERATURES ON THE 20TH TO
23RD.  TEMPERATURES SET NO RECORDS...BUT THE HIGHS OF 92 TO 93
DEGREES AND LOWS IN THE MID 70S WERE THE WARMEST OF THE MONTH AND
WERE ACCOMPANIED BY HUMID CONDITIONS AND HEAT INDICES IN THE 100S.
TEMPERATURES RETURNED TO READINGS WITHIN A FEW DEGREES OF NORMAL
FROM THE 24TH TO THE 31ST. INTERMITTENT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
FROM THE 15TH TO THE 31ST WERE MAINLY LIGHT.
