THIS FEBRUARY OF 2015 IN SHREVEPORT AND BOSSIER CITY LOUISIANA
OBSERVED BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES WITH NEAR NORMAL PRECIPITATION.
THE FIRST THREE WEEKS OF FEBRUARY OBSERVED TYPICAL LATE WINTER
CONDITIONS...MILD DRY DAYS AND COOL WET DAYS...ALONG AND BEHIND COLD
FRONTAL PASSAGES. THE FINAL WEEK OF FEBRUARY OBSERVED A PERSISTENT
ARCTIC AIRMASS SETTLING INTO THE REGION WITH WIDESPREAD SNOW AND
SLEET.

THIS FEBRUARY NOW RANKS AS THE ELEVENTH COOLEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD
AND THE COOLEST SINCE THE FEBRUARY OF 2010 THAT AVERAGED 42.9
DEGREES. MUCH OF THIS FEBRUARY AVERAGED TO NEAR NORMAL
TEMPERATURES...BUT THE PERSISTENT ARCTIC AIR MASS AS WELL AS
WIDESPREAD SNOW COVER DURING THE LAST WEEK OF FEBRUARY DRAMATICALLY
PULLED THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE DOWNWARDS.

SHREVEPORT AND BOSSIER CITY OBSERVED TWO WINTER STORMS DURING THE
LAST WEEK OF FEBRUARY...SOMETHING THAT HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE THE
CHRISTMAS THROUGH NEW YEARS EVE HOLIDAY PERIOD OF 2000. DURING
FEBRUARY 23RD...LIGHT FREEZING RAIN CHANGED OVER TO MODERATE TO
HEAVY SLEET DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. ROADWAYS ICED UP
ACCORDINGLY WITH NUMEROUS TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS AS WELL AS THE USUAL
BRIDGE AND OVERPASS CLOSURES. DURING THE MORNING OF THE 25TH...A
COLD RAIN CHANGED OVER TO MODERATE TO HEAVY WET SNOWFALL AND AGAIN
DISRUPTED TRAVEL. ALSO THE WET HEAVY SNOW RESULTED IN SOME POWER
LINE OUTAGES.

SHREVEPORT RECEIVED 1.0 INCH OF SNOW AND SLEET DURING FEBRUARY 23RD
AND 3.1 INCHES OF SNOW DURING FEBRUARY 25TH FOR A TOTAL OF 4.1
INCHES. SHREVEPORT OBSERVED THE SNOWIEST FEBRUARY SINCE 2010 THAT
RECEIVED 5.4 INCHES OF SNOW.

SHREVEPORT TIED A DAILY COOLEST HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD DURING
FEBRUARY 23RD. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE ONLY REACHED 37 DEGREES DURING
THE HEAVY SLEET EVENT AND TIED THE RECORD LAST ESTABLISHED DURING
1966. DURING FEBRUARY 27TH...SHREVEPORT BROKE THE DAILY COOLEST
HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD. WIDESPREAD SNOW COVER AND PERSISTENT
ARCTIC AIR ONLY ALLOWED A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 36 DEGREES THAT DAY
AND BROKE THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 39 DEGREES SET DURING 1937.

FOR THE METEOROLOGICAL WINTER OF 2014 AND 2015 (DECEMBER 1ST THROUGH
