Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
836 AM PDT Thu Jun 29 2017

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...Warmer and drier conditions today and
Friday as an upper ridge of high pressure moves over the Pacific
Northwest. A weak upper level trough will approach late tonight
and Friday morning and move over the area Friday and Saturday.
There is a very small possibility for thunderstorms to develop
near the Cascade crest of the Willamette National Forest Friday
afternoon. Saturday will be much cooler and have a cloudy start to
the day. Slight warming on Sunday as weak high pressure moves
over the area.

.DISCUSSION...An upper ridge will result in shallower marine
stratus today for an earlier clearing of the inland skies, and
warmer afternoon temperatures. An approaching weak upper level
trough will provide more of a southerly marine push late tonight
into Friday morning, but expect any marine stratus to be shallow
and clear quickly, for slightly warmer temperatures Friday
afternoon. Cumulus build ups are likely over the Cascades Friday
afternoon with a slight chance of thunderstorms near the crest in
the Willamette NF. However, any thunderstorms that may form will
quickly move east of the Cascades.

Onshore winds will increase Friday night and Saturday for a deep
marine push Saturday morning and cooler temperatures Saturday
afternoon. Gusty west winds are expected Friday evening and even
more so Saturday afternoon and evening for the higher terrain of
Mount Hood NF and the Columbia River Gorge near Hood River. Weak
ridging on Sunday will warm temperatures a tad. A general trough
pattern is expected early next week for continued seasonal weather
with marine pushes each morning maintaining seasonal temperatures
and humidities.
