FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
842 AM PDT SUN AUG 2 2015

...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED TO AFFECT NORTHWEST OREGON AND
SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON TODAY AND TONIGHT...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS COMING UP FROM THE
SOUTH MAY AFFECT MUCH OF NORTHWEST OREGON AND SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON
THROUGH TONIGHT. A STRONG UPPER RIDGE REMAINS OVER THE REGION BUT
WILL WEAKEN AND SHIFT EAST EARLY IN THE WEEK....ALLOWING AN UPPER
TROUGH TO PUSH INTO THE NORTHWEST. THIS WILL BRING A GRADUAL
COOLING AND MOISTENING TREND. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS
WILL CONTINUE FOR THE CENTRAL OREGON CASCADES INTO THE MIDDLE OF
THE WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS MAY AFFECT MUCH OF NORTHWEST
OREGON AND SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AT TIMES TODAY AND TONIGHT. MID-
LEVEL MONSOONAL MOISTURE IS FEEDING UP FROM THE SOUTH TODAY AND
QUITE A BIT OF LIGHTNING WAS DETECTED JUST OFF THE OREGON COAST
OVERNIGHT. ANOTHER BATCH OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE MOVING
INTO SOUTHERN LANE COUNTY AS OF 830 AM AND WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH
NORTHWEST TODAY. THE MOISTURE IS ELEVATED...SO THERE MAY BE
LITTLE TO NO PRECIPITATION EXCEPT DIRECTLY UNDER STRONGER STORM
CORES. DUE TO THE VERY DRY AIR NEAR THE SURFACE...GUSTY DOWNDRAFT
WINDS MAY ACCOMPANY SOME OF THE THUNDERSTORMS.THE FORECAST MODELS
ARE INDICATING THAT AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE MAY BRING ANOTHER
ROUND OF THUNDERSTORMS INTO THE REGION THIS EVENING OR OVERNIGHT.

A STRONG UPPER LEVEL RIDGE REMAINS OVER THE REGION TODAY...BUT
WILL GRADUALLY WEAKEN AND PUSH EAST OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF
DAYS. THE THERMAL TROUGH THAT HAS BEEN OVER THE REGION HAS NOW
FINALLY PUSHED EAST OF THE CASCADES...WHICH WILL ALLOW ONSHORE
FLOW TO INCREASE. AN UPPER TROUGH WILL PUSH INTO THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST THIS WEEK...DRIVING A GRADUAL COOLING AND MOISTENING
TREND THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK. THERE WILL BE A CONTINUED
CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH AT LEAST TUESDAY...BUT WITH
THE INCREASING WESTERLY FLOW ALOFT DUE TO THE APPROACHING
TROUGH...EXPECT CHANCES WILL MOSTLY BE LIMITED TO NEAR THE CASCADE
CREST. THE LONGER RANGE FORECAST MODELS INDICATE A SLIGHT WARMING
TREND TOWARD THE END OF THE WEEK WITH A CLOSED LOW DROPPING OFF
OF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST. PYLE
