FORECAST VALID...SATURDAY 26 AUGUST 2017

ANALYSIS CONFIDENCE...HIGH TO MODERATE

SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE BEAUFORT WILL MOVE INTO THE ARCTIC
AND DISSIPATE...BEING REPLACED BY BROAD WEAK LOW PRESSURE ON
TUESDAY. A STRONGER SYSTEM WILL PROGRESS FROM THE YUKON TO BANKS
ISLAND ON THURSDAY...THEN EXITING THE AREA ON SATURDAY. WEAK HIGH
PRESSURE WILL SET UP OVER THE EASTERN CHUKCHI ON WEDNESDAY AND BUILD
OVER THE BEAUFORT THROUGH THE LATE WEEK.

PKZ505-CENTRAL U.S. ARCTIC OFFSHORE-

THE MAIN ICE EDGE IN THE BEAUFORT SEA CONTINUES FROM CANADIAN WATERS
AT 71.6N 135.1W TO 72.3N 142.6W TO 74.2N 136.7W TO 76.4N 140.7W TO
75.9N 157.4W AND CONTINUES INTO THE CHUKCHI SEA. THE ICE EDGE IS
MAINLY OPEN WATER. THERE IS ALSO AN AREA OF BRASH SEA ICE LOCATED
BETWEEN 72.8N AND 73.8N AND 150.0W AND 154.0W.

FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY FOR THE BEAUFORT SEA...LIGHT EASTERLY
WINDS WILL TURN NORTHEASTERLY LATE TUESDAY. NORTHEASTELRY WINDS WILL
INCREASE IN STRENGTH LATE WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY AS A LOW PASSES TO
THE EAST. THE ICE EDGE IS EXPECTED MOVE TO THE WEST-SOUTHWEST 5 TO
15 NM THROUGH SATURDAY. THE AREA OF BRASH ICE WILL LIKELY MELT OUT
BY SATURDAY.

-CHUKCHI SEA-
PKZ500-WESTERN U.S. ARCTIC OFFSHORE-

THE MAIN ICE EDGE IN THE CHUKCHI SEA CONTINUES FROM THE BEAUFORT SEA
AT 74.4N 167.5W TO 76.4N 167.7W TO 76.1N 178.9W  TO 74.6N 172.9W TO
73.7N 175.4W AND CONTINUES IN RUSSIAN WATERS. THE ICE EDGE IS MAINLY
OPEN WATER.

FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY FOR THE CHUKCHI SEA...GENERALLY LIGHT AND
VARIABLE FLOW IS EXPECTED TO PERSIST OVER THE ICE EDGE THROUGH
SATURDAY. THE WESTERN CHUKCHI WILL SEE SOME LIGHT SOUTHERLY WINDS
THROUGH THE PERIOD. THE ICE EDGE WILL MOVE TO THE WEST-SOUTHWEST 5
TO 15 NM THROUGH SATURDAY...WITH CONTINUED MELTING WITHIN THE ICE
PACK.
