ANALYSIS CONFIDENCE...MODERATE

SYNOPSIS...AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE NEAR POINT BARROW WILL SLOWLY
DRIFT NORTHEASTWARD TOWARD BANKS ISLAND WHILE SLOWLY WEAKENING
THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON BEFORE DISSIPATING. A SECOND AREA OF LOW
PRESSURE WILL MOVE OVER THE CHUKCHI SEA LATE TUESDAY AND MERGE WITH
THE AFOREMENTIONED LOW LATE WEDNESDAY. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD
ACROSS THE CHUKCHI SEA LATE WEDNESDAY AND SPREAD EASTWARD OVER THE
BEAUFORT SEA BY FRIDAY.

-CHUKCHI SEA-

THE MAIN ICE EDGE LIES FROM A POINT ROUGHLY 150 NM NORTH OF BARROW
TO 75.2N 162.0W TO 76.4N 159.0W TO 75.8N 170.5W TO 74.6N 177.4W TO
72.6N 178.1E AND CONTINUES TO THE WEST IN THE RUSSIAN ARCTIC. THE
ICE EDGE IS MAINLY OPEN WATER...WITH AREAS OF NEW ICE WEST OF 170W.

FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY FOR THE CHUKCHI SEA...MODERATE NORTH TO
NORTHWESTERLY WINDS WILL BECOME LIGHT AND SHIT TO THE WEST TUESDAY
MORNING. THE WESTERLY WINDS WILL BECOME MODERATE ON WEDNESDAY AS A
LOW PUSHES ACROSS THE NORTHERN CHUKCHI SEA. WINDS WILL BECOME LIGHT
FROM THE NORTHWEST EARLY THURSDAY...WITH LIGHT NORTHERLY WINDS
CONTINUING IN THE WAKE OF THE LOW THROUGH SATURDAY. NEW ICE IS
EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ALONG THE ICE EDGE WEST OF 170W. THE REMAINDER
OF THE CHUKCHI SEA ICE EDGE IS EXPECTED TO SHIFT UP TO 10 NM TO THE
SOUTH.

-BEAUFORT SEA-

THE MAIN ICE EDGE LIES FROM THE SOUTHWEST COAST OF BANKS ISLAND TO
71.6M 132.2W TO 71.4N 138.1W TO 72.9N 146.2W TO 73.2N 146.5W TO
73.5N 150.0W TO 73.3N 150.5W TO A POINT ROUGHLY 150 NM NORTH OF
BARROW. THE ICE EDGE CONSISTS OF MAINLY OPEN WATER.


FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY FOR THE BEAUFORT SEA...LIGHT NORTHEASTERLY
WINDS WILL BECOME MODERATE FROM THE NORTHEAST ON TUESDAY. THE
MODERATE WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST ON WEDNESDAY AS
A LOW PUSHES ACROSS THE BEAUFORT SEA. WINDS WILL SLOWLY BEGIN TO
DIMINISH AS THEY SWITCH TO THE NORTHWEST ON THURSDAY AS HIGH
PRESSURE SETTLES INTO THE REGION. THE OVERALL ICE EDGE IS EXPECT TO
SHIFT UP TO 10 NM TO THE SOUTH WITH NEW ICE BEGINNING TO DEVELOP
ALONG THE ICE EDGE.
