FIRE DANGER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BROWNSVILLE TX
413 AM CST SAT JAN 21 2017

...ELEVATED FIRE DANGER CONDITIONS ACROSS THE WESTERN
RANCHLANDS...

THE COMBINATION OF BREEZY WEST WINDS, LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY, AND
CURED FINE FUELS WILL BRING AN ENHANCED THREAT OF ERRATIC FIRE
BEHAVIOR DURING THE AFTERNOON SATURDAY FOR ZAPATA AND JIM HOGG
COUNTIES. DAYTIME HEATING WILL BE CONSIDERABLE TODAY DUE TO
SOUTHWEST WINDS ACROSS THE REGION. SOUTHWEST WINDS ALSO BRING MUCH
DRIER AIR INTO THE REGION, WHICH IS FORECAST TO DROP BELOW 20
PERCENT FOR MOST OF THIS AFTERNOON. LATER THIS AFTERNOON, WINDS
WILL SHIFT MORE TO THE WEST AND INCREASE TO NEAR 15 MPH AT 20
FEET. THIS, IN ADDITION TO FUELS BECOMING CURED FROM A FREEZE A
COUPLE WEEKS AGO, WILL LEAD TO AN ELEVATED THREAT OF ERRATIC
FIRE BEHAVIOR DURING THE AFTERNOON TODAY. CONDITIONS WILL IMPROVE
BRIEFLY OVERNIGHT TONIGHT BEFORE THE NEXT FRONT ARRIVES SUNDAY
MORNING.
