...THREAT OF MONSOONAL THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY FOR THE MOUNTAINS AND
   DESERTS TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...

...HOT WEATHER ON TAP FOR INTERIOR AREAS TODAY INTO MONDAY...

A STRONG UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM CURRENTLY CENTERED OVER NEVADA
WILL BRING INCREASING EAST TO SOUTHEAST FLOW OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
AS A RESULT...A SURGE OF MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL MOVE INTO THE
REGION THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY. FOR TODAY...THERE WILL BE A
SLIGHT CHANCE OF ELEVATED THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS OF LOS
ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES AS WELL AS THE ANTELOPE VALLEY. DURING
THIS TIME...THE MAIN THREATS WITH STORMS WILL BE ISOLATED DRY
LIGHTNING STRIKES AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS. THE MONSOON MOISTURE IS
EXPECTED TO INCREASE ACROSS THE AREA MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...WITH A
GREATER THREAT OF STORMS OVER THE MOUNTAINS AND ANTELOPE VALLEY.
DURING THIS TIME...THERE IS A VERY SLIGHT CHANCE OF STORMS DRIFTING
INTO SOME OF THE COASTAL AND VALLEY AREAS. STORMS WILL BE WETTER ON
MONDAY AND TUESDAY, BRINGING THE THREAT OF BRIEF HEAVY DOWNPOURS
ALONG WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR LOCALIZED FLOODING OF ROADWAYS AND
ARROYOS.

THE STRONG UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM COMBINED WITH EASTERLY
FLOW IN THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE WILL BRING SIGNIFICANT WARMING TO
INTERIOR SECTIONS OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA TODAY AND MONDAY.
THE FOLLOWING IS A SUMMARY OF EXPECTED TEMPERATURES FOR TODAY
WHICH IS EXPECTED TO BE THE HOTTEST DAY OF THIS MINI HEAT WAVE.

ANTELOPE VALLEY AND SAN LUIS OBISPO INTERIOR VALLEYS..102 TO 108 DEGREES.
LOWER MOUNTAIN ELEVATIONS..............................90 TO 104 DEGREES.
VALLEYS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES............90 TO 104 DEGREES.

THE INFLUX OF SOME MONSOONAL MOISTURE INTO LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA
COUNTIES TODAY WILL ADD TO THE DISCOMFORT. WARMEST MOUNTAIN
LOCATIONS WILL LIKELY HAVE HEAT INDEX VALUES LOCALLY REACHING
CRITICAL HEAT WARNING THRESHOLDS OF 100 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON. WHILE
TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY BE DOWN A FEW DEGREES ON MONDAY...THE
CONTINUED HOT WEATHER COMBINED WITH INCREASED HUMIDITY WILL BRING
ANOTHER ROUND OF UNCOMFORTABLE CONDITIONS TO INTERIOR SECTIONS.

ANYONE PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS DURING
THE NEXT FEW DAYS SHOULD CAREFULLY MONITOR THE LATEST WEATHER CONDITIONS
AND FORECASTS DUE TO THE POTENTIAL HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH
THUNDERSTORMS.
