SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FAIRBANKS AK
314 PM AKDT SAT JUL 16 2016

AKZ201-202-172100-
WESTERN ARCTIC COAST-NORTHERN ARCTIC COAST-
INCLUDING...WAINWRIGHT...ATQASUK...POINT LAY...CAPE LISBURNE...
BARROW...ALAKTAK...PITT POINT...NULAVIK
314 PM AKDT SAT JUL 16 2016

...ELEVATED SURF...MINOR COASTAL EROSION AND SEA ICE GROUNDED
JUST OFF SHORE OF ARCTIC COAST...

A STRONG COLD FRONT APPROACHES THE ARCTIC COAST. THE FLOW BECAME
ONSHORE INITIALLY WITH THE WEAKER PRECEDING FRONT. THE WINDS HAVE
NOW BECOME MORE WEST SOUTHWESTERLY. THIS WILL ASSIST IN
UNGROUNDING THE SEA ICE NEAR THE SHORE AS HIGH HIGH TIDE
APPROACHES.

HOWEVER...UNTIL THE THE SEA ICE IS LIFTED IS WILL STILL BE LIKELY
THAT THERE WILL BE SOME BEACH EROSION. THE WINDS ARE A SOUTHWEST
TO WEST DIRECTION AT AROUND 15 TO 25 KT. THE DIRECTION MAY TURN A
BIT MORE WESTERLY OR EVEN SLIGHTLY NORTHWESTERLY SUN AFTERNOON BUT
AT PRESENT IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT ADDITIONAL SEA ICE WILL BE
DIRECTED IMMEDIATELY TO THE SHORE THROUGH AT LEAST SUNDAY
MORNING.

THOSE WITH BOATS...EQUIPMENT OR OTHER PERSONAL ITEMS LOCATED NEAR
THE BEACH MAY CONSIDER MOVING THEM FURTHER INLAND AND AWAY FROM
THE WATERS EDGE UNTIL THIS EVEN SUBSIDES. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE
APPROACHING WEATHER SYSTEM FOR ANY CHANGES TO THE IMPACTS AND
TIMING.
