CORRECTION FOR THE VALID SATELLITE IMAGERY TIME

Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America
Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South
America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the
Equator to 31N. The following information is based on satellite
imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1730 UTC.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

...CARIBBEAN SEA GALE-FORCE WIND WARNING...

Expect for tonight in the coastal waters of Colombia: near gale-
force to gale-force NE winds, and rough seas, from 11N to 12N
between 74.5W and 75.5W.

...ATLANTIC OCEAN GALE-FORCE WIND WARNING AND VERY ROUGH SEAS...

The forecast for the afternoon hours and for the nighttime hours
of today consists of: near gale-force to gale-force N winds, and
very rough seas, from 30.5N northward between 36.5W and 38.5W.

...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ...

The monsoon trough passes through the coastal sections of southern
Sierra Leone, to 04N18W. The ITCZ continues from 04N18W, crossing
the Equator along 25W, to 01S30W and 01S34W. Precipitation: widely
scattered moderate to isolated strong is from 07N southward.

...GULF OF MEXICO...

A 1027 mb high pressure center is near 30N89W. Broad surface
anticyclonic wind flow spans the Gulf of Mexico. Fresh NE winds
cover the area that is from 90W eastward. An exception is for
strong NE winds in the east central Gulf waters. Moderate to fresh
SE winds are elsewhere. Moderate seas are to the southeast of the
line that runs from the Tampa Florida metropolitan area, to the
SE Gulf, to the waters that are off the NW Yucatan Peninsula.
Slight seas are elsewhere.

High pressure dominates the Gulf basin. Strong winds will pulse
off the northwest Yucatan peninsula in the evenings the next
several days. Otherwise, moderate to fresh winds with slight to
moderate seas can be expected through the weekend and into early
next week.

...CARIBBEAN SEA...

Please, read the SPECIAL FEATURES section, for details about the
gale-force wind warning for tonight off the coast of Colombia.

Strong to near gale-force NE winds are from 13N southward between
74W and 78W. Mostly fresh to some moderate NE winds are elsewhere
in the central one-third of the Caribbean Sea. Fresh to moderate
NE winds are from 70W eastward. Fresh to strong NE winds are to
the north of the line that runs from the Gulf of Honduras to the
cold front that is in Cuba near 21N79W. Moderate NE winds are
elsewhere from the eastern tip of Honduras northward from 80W
westward. Fresh NE winds are in the remainder of the Caribbean
Sea, in the SW corner of the area. Rough to very rough seas are
from 14N southward from 73W westward into the SW corner of the
area. Moderate seas are in the remainder of the Caribbean Sea,
with some exceptions. The exceptions are for slight seas in the
coastal waters from NE Nicaragua to Honduras.

The 24-hour rainfall totals in inches, for the period that ended
at 13/1200 UTC, are: 0.74 in San Juan in Puerto Rico. This
information is from the Pan American Temperature and Precipitation
Tables/MIATPTPAN.

Fresh to strong winds will prevail off the coast of Colombia,
pulsing to gale-force tonight and Sun night. Rough seas will
develop during the period of strongest winds. Fresh to
occasionally strong winds are expected in the Windward Passage,
S of the Dominican Republic, and in the Lee of Cuba. Otherwise,
moderate to locally fresh winds and moderate seas can be expected
across much of the basin through the weekend and into early next
week. Fresh to occasionally strong winds may develop in the Gulf
of Honduras mid-week.

...ATLANTIC OCEAN...

Please, read the SPECIAL FEATURES section, for details about the
gale-force winds and very rough seas, in the central sections of
the Atlantic Ocean.

A cold front passes through 31N67W, to 28N70W, to the Bahamas near
24N75W, to Cuba near 21N79W. Rough seas are from 29N northward
from 70W westward. Strong NW winds are from 30N northward from 70W
westward. Moderate to fresh NW winds are from the cold front
northward. Mostly gentle to some moderate winds are from the cold
front southward from 70W westward. Precipitation: isolated
moderate to locally strong is within 60 nm on either side of the
cold front.

A shear line is along 31N30W 20N40W 18N50W 16N60W. Rough seas are
to the north of the line that starts 31N60W 26N60W, to the border
of Venezuela and Guyana that is along 60W, to 08N55W 15N60W
17N45W 19N40W 24N35W beyond 31N30W. Rough seas also are from 29N
northward from 70W westward. Moderate to rough seas are from 11N
to 17N between 43W and 50W. Moderate seas are in the remainder of
the Atlantic Ocean. Strong NE winds are from 17N northward between
40W and 55W. Mostly fresh to some strong NE winds are between 55W
and 70W; and from 21N northward between 30W and 40W. Mostly fresh
NE winds are elsewhere from 30W westward. Moderate or slower winds
are from 30W eastward.

A cold front extending from 31N67W to central Cuba will stall
from 31N61W to eastern Cuba early Sun where it will gradually
dissipate. Strong winds occurring on either side of the front N of
29N will diminish tonight. Rough seas will accompany these winds
and subside by Sun morning. Large N-NE swell across the SE waters
will linger through the weekend. Otherwise, high pressure will
build in the wake of the front through early next week with more
tranquil marine conditions expected.
