Dry and milder weather through the week.

.Discussion...
High level moisture from the Pacific is bringing some high clouds
to the region. Northerly surface pressure gradient has tightened
since Tuesday and is resulting in locally gusty northerly winds of
15-30 mph over the northern mountains. Current temperatures are
milder compared to 24 hours ago and range from the 30s to mid 40s
in the mountains to the mid 50s to lower 60s across the Central
Valley.

Upper level ridging will continue to be the dominant synoptic
pattern through the remainder of the week. High clouds will remain
possible, thanks to a system moving well north of our area, but no
precipitation is expected for the area. As the upper level ridging
continues to build and control the overall weather pattern,
afternoon high temperatures will climb a bit as we move through
the week. Highs today will be similar to Tuesday`s - in the upper
70s and lower 80s, then on Thursday thru Saturday more widespread
readings up into the lower to mid 80s are likely (around 5-10
degrees above average).

Breezy northerly winds will spread south through much of the
Sacramento Valley this morning as surface gradient tightens
tightens in the wake of the short-wave trough exiting the PacNW.
Gusts of 15-25 mph will be possible (mainly along the I-5
corridor from Sacramento northward) before subsiding later this
afternoon.

.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Sunday THROUGH Wednesday)...
Ensembles favor upper level ridging through the weekend,
resulting in dry weather and above normal temperatures. NBM
guidance suggests daytime high temperatures in the low 80s for the
Valley, with upper 60s to upper 70s in the foothills, and mid 50s
to 70s in the mountains this weekend. Although ensembles still
show some uncertainty, the overall pattern suggests weak troughing
developing early next week. This will promote onshore flow and
slightly cooler temperatures across the region. Near normal
temperatures are expected by mid-week, with forecast highs in the
mid to upper 70s across the Valley.

VFR conditions next 24 hours. Areas of northerly surface wind
gusts 15-25 kts northern mountains and northern Sacramento Valley
18Z-23Z.
