...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO
MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS ISSUED A COASTAL
FLOOD ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO
MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT.

* LOCATION...LOW LYING AREAS BORDERING THE LOWER CAPE FEAR RIVER FROM
  DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON NC AND SOUTHWARD.

* MINOR COASTAL FLOODING...THE TIDE GAUGE IN DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON IS
  FORECAST TO REACH JUST SHY OF 5.8 FT MLLW. MINOR FLOODING BEGINS
  AT 5.5 FT MLLW.

* TIMING...WATER LEVELS WILL BE CONDUCIVE TO MINOR FLOODING BETWEEN
  10 PM AND MIDNIGHT TONIGHT.

* IMPACTS...SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER WILL COVER THE LOWEST PORTIONS OF
  U.S.S. NORTH CAROLINA ROAD AND BATTLESHIP RD. WATER WILL SPREAD OUT
  OF THE STORM DRAINS AND ONTO WATER STREET IN DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON. A
  FEW SPOTS ALONG RIVER ROAD SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON MAY SEE
  WATER PARTIALLY COVER THE ROADWAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY INDICATES THAT INCREASING ASTRONOMICAL TIDES
DUE TO THE NEW MOON WILL COMBINE WITH THE CAPE FEAR RIVER WATERS TO
PRODUCE FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS ALONG LOW-LYING PORTIONS ADJACENT
TO THE RIVER.

RIP CURRENTS ARE POWERFUL CHANNELS OF WATER FLOWING QUICKLY AWAY
FROM SHORE, WHICH OCCUR MOST OFTEN AT LOW SPOTS OR BREAKS IN THE
SANDBAR AND IN THE VICINITY OF STRUCTURES SUCH AS JETTIES AND PIERS.
HEED THE ADVICE OF LIFEGUARDS, BEACH PATROL FLAGS AND SIGNS.

IF YOU BECOME CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT, SWIM TO THE SIDE AND DOWN THE
BEACH TO ESCAPE. IF YOU CAN`T SWIM OUT OF THE RIP CURRENT THEN FOCUS
ALL OF YOUR ENERGY TO STAY AFLOAT AND YELL FOR HELP. DO NOT ATTEMPT
TO SWIM DIRECTLY AGAINST A RIP CURRENT AS YOU WILL TIRE QUICKLY.
