...OCTOBER 2014 NARRATIVE FOR CENTRAL NEBRASKA REGIONAL AIRPORT...

OTHER THAN AVERAGING A FEW DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURE-WISE AND
A LITTLE BELOW NORMAL IN THE RAINFALL DEPARTMENT...THERE WAS REALLY
NOTHING ALL THAT NOTEWORTHY ABOUT THE WEATHER DURING OCT. 2014.

TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT MONTHLY PRECIPITATION...THE TOTAL OF 1.28
INCHES AT CENTRAL NEBRASKA REGIONAL AIRPORT WAS 0.58 INCHES BELOW
THE 30-YEAR OCTOBER NORMAL OF 1.86 INCHES...AND REPRESENTED 69
PERCENT OF NORMAL OCTOBER PRECIPITATION. ALTHOUGH A BIT ON THE DRY
SIDE...ONE ONLY HAS TO LOOK BACK 2 YEARS TO FIND A DRIER OCTOBER
(0.78 INCHES IN 2012). THE MAJORITY OF MONTHLY RAIN FELL ON THE 22ND
(0.76 INCHES)...AND ONLY FOUR DAYS DURING THE MONTH FEATURED ANY
MEASURABLE RAIN. NO SNOW FELL DURING OCTOBER 2014.

TEMPERATURE-WISE...ALTHOUGH THERE WERE A FEW MINOR BUMPS IN THE ROAD
OF COOLER READINGS...THE MAJORITY OF THE MONTH FEATURED SEASONABLY-
PLEASANT WARMTH. THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE (RESULTING FROM
AVERAGING BOTH THE HIGHS AND LOWS) WAS 54.9 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 2.7
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. EVEN SO...THIS OCTOBER ONLY TIED FOR THE 37TH-
WARMEST ON RECORD OUT OF 120 YEARS. OVER THE COURSE OF THE MONTH 20
DAYS FEATURED AN ABOVE NORMAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE...EIGHT DAYS WERE
BELOW NORMAL AND THREE DAYS EQUALED THEIR DAILY NORMAL. BREAKING
DOWN THE MONTH INTO WEEK-LONG CHUNKS...THE OVERALL-WARMEST WEEK PER
BOTH THE OVERALL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AND AVERAGE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE
OCCURRED FROM THE 20TH-26TH...DURING WHICH SIX OF SEVEN DAYS REACHED
AT LEAST 73 DEGREES. THE OUTRIGHT-WARMEST DAYS OF THE MONTH WERE THE
1ST AND 24TH WITH HIGHS OF 80 DEGREES...AND THE MILDEST MORNING LOW
OF 57 DEGREES OCCURRED ON THE 1ST. IN CONTRAST...THE OVERALL-COOLEST
WEEK OF THE MONTH PER AVERAGE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OCCURRED FROM THE
8TH-14TH...DURING WHICH HIGHS NEVER REACHED 70. HOWEVER...THE
OUTRIGHT-CHILLIEST DAY OF THE MONTH CAME AT THE VERY END ON THE
31ST...AS HALLOWEEN FEATURED A DAYTIME HIGH OF ONLY 44 DEGREES
FOLLOWING A MORNING LOW OF 22. THE FIRST HARD FREEZE OF THE SEASON
(28 DEGREES-OR-COLDER) HAPPENED ON THE MORNING OF THE 29TH WITH A
LOW OF 27 DEGREES. THIS WAS TWO WEEKS LATER THAN THE 30-YEAR
AVERAGE. THE MOST EXTREME DAY-TO-DAY CHANGE IN HIGH TEMPERATURES
DURING THE MONTH WAS 20 DEGREES...CONSISTING OF A NOTICEABLE COOL-
DOWN FROM 64 DEGREES ON THE 30TH TO 44 ON THE 31ST.

ALTHOUGH THERE WERE A FEW THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE MONTH...NWS
HASTINGS RECEIVED NO REPORTS OF LARGE HAIL OR DAMAGING WINDS FROM
ANYWHERE WITHIN HALL COUNTY. THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF THE MONTH AT
THE AIRPORT WAS ONLY 46 MPH FROM THE NORTH...AND OCCURRED ON THE
AFTERNOON OF THE 13TH IN THE WAKE OF A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM.
