...COPIOUS RAINFALL EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND ACROSS THE ILLINOIS
RIVER VALLEY...

Several periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected over
the Illinois River valley this weekend. Through Monday morning,
rainfall is expected to accumulate between 3 and 5 inches, with
the heaviest totals east of the river. At the present time, it
appears that Saturday afternoon and night are the most likely
periods for heavy rain to fall.

With this amount of rain falling, rapid runoff is expected. The
Illinois River is already in flood around Beardstown and Havana,
and flooding is likely to develop upstream early next week if this
amount of rain materializes. Flooding of smaller rivers will be
more rapid. In addition, localized flooding of area roads is
possible.

Flood watches have already been posted further southeast, and may
need to be expanded toward the Illinois River valley. Be sure to
monitor later forecasts for updates on the potential for flooding
this weekend.
