...HEAVY RAIN FORECAST THROUGH MID WEEK...

WIDESPREAD MODERATE TO HEAVY PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED THROUGH MID
WEEK AS A PAIR OF MILD AND MOIST PACIFIC STORMS MARCHES THROUGH
THE REGION. SNOW LEVELS WILL RISE FROM THE UPPER VALLEYS TONIGHT
INTO THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS ABOVE 6000 FEET BY MONDAY WITH THE
FIRST STORM, AND REMAIN HIGH WITH THE SECOND STORM TUESDAY THROUGH
WEDNESDAY.

TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES IN THE VALLEYS AND 2 TO 4
INCHES IN THE MOUNTAINS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH WEDNESDAY. THERE IS
POTENTIAL FOR LOCALLY HEAVIER RAINFALL AMOUNTS NEAR THE CASCADE
CREST AND THE HIGHER PEAKS OF THE IDAHO PANHANDLE MOUNTAINS.

THE HEAVY RAIN WILL LEAD TO SOME POTENTIAL PROBLEMS, LIKE FIELD
FLOODING WITH FROZEN GROUND AND IN LOW LYING AREAS. ROCK AND MUD
SLIDES IN THE STEEPER TERRAIN IN THE EAST CASCADES AND IDAHO
PANHANDLE WILL ALSO BE A CONCERN THIS WEEK.

ANTICIPATE RISES ON SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS ESPECIALLY THOSE
WITH POOR DRAINAGE OR IMPACTED BY ICE. THE HEAVY SNOW THAT
RECENTLY FELL WILL BE ABLE TO ABSORB THE MAJORITY OF THE RAIN IN
THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS, THEREFORE MAINSTEAM RIVER FLOODING IS NOT
ANTICIPATED AT THIS POINT. THE EXCEPTION WILL BE STEHEKIN RIVER AT
STEHEKIN WHICH IS FORECAST TO SEE SIGNIFICANT RISES AND LIKELY BE
NEAR BANKFULL BY WEDNESDAY EVENING. IN ADDITION, AREAS BELOW BURN
SCARS AND THE SNOW LINE WILL LIKELY SEE SIGNIFICANT RISES IN AREAS
STREAMS AND CREEKS.

PERIODS OF STEADY RAIN THROUGH THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS IS A GOOD
BET. CONFIDENCE IN EXACT RAINFALL AMOUNTS AND RIVER LEVELS THIS
WEEK IS MODERATE AT THIS TIME, SO THOSE ALONG RIVERS, STREAMS OR
IN IMPACTED AREAS SHOULD BE AWARE OF FUTURE STATEMENTS FROM THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
