Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northern Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
247 PM CST Tue Feb 20 2018

.DISCUSSION...

A moderately strong southerly wind will persist across the TN
Valley overnight and throughout the day on Wednesday, as a cold
front slowly approaches the region from the northwest. Increasing
low-level moisture in this regime will lead to regeneration of
thick/low stratus clouds overnight, with the coverage of showers
increasing before sunrise, and a few thunderstorms possible by
tomorrow afternoon. The front is predicted to slowly push into
northwest AL and stall on Wednesday night-Thursday, resulting in
greater coverage of showers/storms across this portion of the
state. Locally heavy rainfall and occasional lightning will be the
main hazards associated with any storms during this period. Smoke
dispersion will be good tomorrow due to strong southerly
transport winds, but should decline considerably by Thursday as
the front stalls in the region and winds subside.

It still appears as if the front will lift back to the north as a
warm front on Thursday night-Friday, with strengthening southerly
flow maintaining a very warm/moist airmass across the region. A
stronger cold front will bring additional thunderstorms to the TN
Valley this weekend, followed by slightly cooler/drier air early
next week.

Fog potential over the next few days: Fog/mist will be possible
across northwest AL for much of Wednesday night/Thursday, mainly
to the north of the stalling frontal boundary. Patchy river valley
fog will be possible in all areas on Thursday night.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
