Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Wrn Montana and N Cntrl Idaho
National Weather Service Missoula MT
227 PM MDT Sun Aug 28 2016

.DISCUSSION...

Idaho: Winds will continue to increase through this afternoon
under westerly flow, but these winds will be lighter than
yesterday. Southwesterly flow will develop over north central
Idaho on Monday, so much warmer temperatures and low humidity
will return and last through mid-week. Overnight recoveries on
mid- slopes and ridges will be progressively poor under this flow
pattern tonight, Monday night, and Tuesday night. Winds will also
increase each afternoon. Thunderstorms, that are expected to be
mostly dry, are still forecast to develop late Tuesday. Model
guidance are coming into better agreement for a trough to move
over the region for the end of the week and the weekend, which
will promote cooler temperatures, but there is still a lot of
uncertainty for precipitation.

Montana: Winds will continue to increase through this afternoon
under westerly flow, but these winds will be lighter than
yesterday in most locations, the exception will be in southwest
Montana where winds are going to be similarly gusty if not
slightly stronger than yesterday. Southwesterly flow will develop
over western Montana on Monday, so much warmer temperatures and
low humidity will return and last through mid-week. Overnight
recoveries on mid-slopes and ridges will be progressively poor
under this flow pattern tonight, Monday night, and Tuesday night.
Winds will also increase each afternoon. Thunderstorms have been
added to the forecast for late Monday in northwest Montana and are
still forecast to develop late Tuesday for the rest of western
Montana. These thunderstorms are going to be mostly dry. Model
guidance are coming into better agreement for a trough to move
over the region for the end of the week and the weekend, which
will promote cooler temperatures, but there is still a lot of
uncertainty for precipitation.
