Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
258 PM PDT Fri Jul 21 2017

...Dry and Breezy in the Central Columbia Gorge This Evening and
again Saturday...
...Thunderstorms Central Cascades Sunday...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...Breezy winds in the Gorge continue this
evening. Warmer temperatures Saturday. A moderate marine push
brings breezy winds to many areas but with similar or slightly
higher humidity Saturday. Unstable conditions with thunderstorms
Sunday and Monday over the Cascades south of Mt. Jefferson with
little rain but probably not much lightning either.

.DISCUSSION...Dry and breezy conditions in the central Gorge will
ease as humidity rises this evening. Expect Saturday will be
several degrees warmer, however, a moderate marine push will bring
higher dew points but result in similar or even higher humidity
than today.

Next concern turns to increasing instability across
west central Oregon and primarily the potential for thunderstorms.
Not much change in thinking from the last couple days with the
best chance for thunderstorms occurring over the central Cascades
Sunday afternoon and evening. Storms continue to look like they
will be more of a nuisance than a widespread threat. Cells should
be rather short-lived with a few cloud to ground flashes from any
one storm. Storms Sunday will be on the drier side expecting
.02-.05" max from any individual storm. Have also looked at
outflow gust potential and feel downdraft gusts will be in the
15-20 mph range or less while a 30 mph gust is on the extreme
side. Some showers may continue rotating north Sunday
night/Monday morning and am still not terribly excited about the
amounts. Monday`s storms are trending toward producing more rain
but are now a bit more uncertain regarding position. There is
potential for an occasional storm to drift more westerly and over
the Cascade foothills. The strongest storms, however, should
remain east of the Cascades. An upper trough slides across
Southern British Columbia around the middle of next week, which
will maintain an onshore flow pattern. /JBonk
