FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
211 PM PDT WED JUL 1 2015

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...BUILDING HIGH PRESSURE WILL BRING BREEZY
AFTERNOON AND EVENING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS...HOT TEMPERATURES AND
LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES THROUGH THE WEEKEND. NIGHTTIME RIDGETOP
RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL LIKELY BE POOR AS A SUBSIDENCE INVERSION
FLUCTUATES BETWEEN 3KFT AND 5KFT. THE STRONGEST LATE AFTERNOON AND
EVENING WINDS IN THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY AND COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE
WILL LIKELY DEVELOP ON FRIDAY.

.DISCUSSION...HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE NORTHEAST PACIFIC AND THERMAL
LOW PRESSURE OVER THE SOUTHERN OREGON COAST AND COLUMBIA RIVER
BASIN WILL KEEP BREEZY NORTHWESTERLY WINDS EACH AFTERNOON AND
EVENING THROUGH THE WEEKEND. WINDS WILL LIKELY BE STRONGEST ON
FRIDAY NEAR THE COASTAL GAPS IN THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY AND IN THE
CENTRAL COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE. MEANWHILE...UPPER LEVEL HIGH
PRESSURE OVER THE REGION WILL PRODUCE HOT TEMPERATURES AND
LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES DURING THIS TIME. THESE CONDITIONS WILL
LIKELY CONTINUE INTO THE WEEKEND. CONDITIONS MAY BRIEFLY FLIRT
WITH RED FLAG WARNING CRITERIA DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING HOURS ON FRIDAY...PARTICULARLY ACROSS THE CENTRAL COLUMBIA
RIVER GORGE...AND POSSIBLY IN THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY. EITHER
WAY...POOR NIGHT TIME RIDGETOP RELATIVE HUMIDITIES APPEAR LIKELY
FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS...PARTICULARLY IN THE CASCADES...AS A
SUBSIDENCE INVERSION LOWERS TO BETWEEN 3KFT AND 5KFT. THE THERMAL
TROUGH MAY SHIFT BRIEFLY OVER WESTERN OREGON AND WASHINGTON ON
SUNDAY...WHICH COULD RESULT IN MID LEVEL HAINES 6
CONDITIONS...AND RESULT IN EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR FOR ANY FIRES
THAT START ON THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND. MODELS CONTINUE TO HINT THERE
IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF A THUNDERSTORM OR TWO DEVELOPING IN THE
CENTRAL OREGON CASCADES SUNDAY OR EARLY NEXT WEEK...BUT CONFIDENCE
IN DETAILS REMAINS LOW. /NEUMAN
