Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
413 AM MDT Thu Mar 23 2017

A RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM TODAY FOR
GUSTY WINDS...LOW HUMIDITY AND DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES
226 THROUGH 237 WHICH INCLUDES THE I-25 CORRIDOR AND ALL OF THE
SOUTHEAST COLORADO PLAINS...

.Discussion...

Widespread critical conditions are expected across the entire
I-25 corridor and southeast Colorado plains today, with south
to southwest winds gusting up to 45 mph. There is also a slight
chance of thunderstorms near the Kansas border late this
afternoon, with lightning potentially producing a few fire starts
over the plains before cooler and moister conditions develop
this evening.

A strong pacific storm will then move across the region tonight
and Friday, bringing much cooler and wetter weather to the
area. There will be a good chance of wetting rain and snow
across all of the district during this time period. Very strong
north winds are expected on Friday, with the potential for
downed power lines on the plains.

Dry and cool weather returns on Saturday, before another weather
system brings a renewed chance of rain and snow to much of the
region starting Sunday. Next week looks cool and unsettled, with
several weather systems potentially bringing rain and snow
to the region through the period.

Afternoon ventilation rates will generally be good to excellent
across the entire district today and again Friday.

--- thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds ---
