Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Montana
National Weather Service Great Falls MT
314 AM MDT Wed Aug 16 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 PM MDT THIS
EVENING FOR LOW RH AND GUSTY WINDS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 112-115
AND 117-118...

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
THURSDAY EVENING FOR STRONG GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RH FOR FIRE WEATHER
ZONES 113 AND 115...

.DISCUSSION...

A very active fire weather pattern begins today and lasts into
this weekend. A more localized critical fire weather threat will
exist today as humidity values are expected to near 10 percent
from near Helena to Great Falls and Havre along with 10 mph
sustained winds with gusts to near 20 mph. A dry frontal passage
tonight will result in northwest winds increasing and becoming
gusty Thursday, despite temperatures lowering to near normal
levels. Sufficiently low humidity values may still allow for
critical fire weather conditions for the Lewistown fire districts
Thursday afternoon and evening.

Highly elevated to potentially critical fire weather conditions
are also possible Friday into Saturday with increasing
temperatures and winds along with lowering humidities.
