HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION
NWS ALASKA PACIFIC RIVER FORECAST CENTER ANCHORAGE AK
3 PM AKDT THU MAY 28 2015

...FLOOD POTENTIAL...

THE SOUTHWEST PORTION OF THE STATE HAS EXPERIENCED PERSISTENT RAIN
OVER THE PAST WEEK. THIS HAS RESULTED IN HIGH WATER LEVELS ON AREA
RIVERS DRAINING THE WOOD RIVER MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHWEST ALASKA... SUCH
AS THE NUYAKUK... NUSHAGAGK... AND WOOD RIVER.

WATER LEVELS ON THE SAG RIVER WILL RISE DUE TO RAIN EXPECTED IN THE
BROOKS RANGE THIS EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY.

...HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION...

THE UPPER LEVEL PATTERN THIS MORNING HAS A LARGE RIDGE CENTERED OVER
THE ALCAN... WITH A SHORTWAVE RIDING UP THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE
RIDGE. THERE IS ALSO A LOW MOVING NORTHWARD INTO THE BERING... AND
A SMALL LOW EAST OF SOUTHERN SOUTHEAST. OVER THE NEXT TWO DAYS THE
LOW NEAR SOUTHERN SOUTHEAST WILL BE NEARLY STATIONARY AND WILL
WEAKEN... WHILE THE LOW MOVING INTO THE BERING WILL CONTINUE SLOWLY
NORTHWESTWARD AND GRADUALLY WEAKEN AS WELL. MEANWHILE... THE
SHORTWAVE MOVING UP THE WEST SIDE OF THE RIDGE WILL CUT ACROSS
NORTHERN ALASKA THIS EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY... BRINGING MODERATE TO
HEAVY RAIN TO PORTIONS OF THE BROOKS RANGE. THE RIDGE WILL REBUILD
NORTHWARD AS THE WAVE MOVES EAST.

...PRECIPITATION...

PRECIPITATION TOTALS OVER THE 24 HOURS ENDING AT 4 AM TODAY:
