HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION:
:
A DISTURBANCE WAS MOVING INTO THE OHIO VALLEY THIS MORNING AND WAS
PRODUCING SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS.  THIS SYSTEM WILL MOVE
EAST TODAY SPREADING SHOWERS INTO WESTERN NEW YORK EARLY THIS
EVENING.  THE DISTURBANCE WILL CONTINUE EASTWARD OVERNIGHT AND
WILL MOVE OFF THE EAST COAST OF NEW ENGLAND BY LATE TUESDAY
AFTERNOON.

BASIN AVERAGE RAINFALL ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL AVERAGE 0.
25 TO 0.45 INCHES FROM THE BUFFALO CREEKS NORTHEASTWARD INTO THE
CHAMPLAIN VALLEY WITH ANOTHER AREA OF 0.20 TO 0.35 INCHES FORECAST
FOR EASTERN CONNECTICUT AND RHODE ISLAND.  RAINFALL OF
0.10 TO 0.20 INCHES IS EXPECTED OVER THE REMAINDER OF NEW YORK AND
NEW ENGLAND.

HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER THE NORTHEAST U.S. ON WEDNESDAY
BRINGING DRY AND SEASONABLY COOL WEATHER.

HYDROLOGIC DISCUSSION:
:
RIVER LEVELS ACROSS THE NORTHEAST REGION ARE GENERALLY IN
RECESSION OR HOLDING AT STEADY LEVELS.  AS THE SYSTEM DISCUSSED
ABOVE MOVES ACROSS THE REGION ON TUESDAY, SOME MINOR RISES OF 0.5
FEET OR LESS CAN BE EXPECTED.  DRY WEATHER BEHIND THIS SYSTEM WILL
MEAN THAT RIVERS WILL QUICKLY RETURN TO RECEDING OR STEADY LEVELS
.

ACCORDING TO THE USGS WATER WATCH WEBPAGE, 7-DAY AVERAGE
STREAMFLOWS ACROSS MOST OF THE NORTHEAST REGION ARE RUNNING AT
NORMAL TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL LEVELS FOR MID-SEPTEMBER.  HOWEVER
, ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND AND SOUTHEAST NEW YORK, RIVER FLOWS
ARE MOSTLY BELOW TO WELL BELOW NORMAL.

THE NERFC FLOOD POTENTIAL OUTLOOK GRAPHIC INDICATES SIGNIFICANT
RIVER FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED IN THE NORTHEASTERN UNITED STATES
DURING THE NEXT FIVE DAYS.
