...POTENTIALLY DAMAGING WINDS PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN NEW
MEXICO TODAY...

.Widespread strong to potentially damaging winds will impact much of
central and eastern New Mexico today. Gusts between 60 and 70 mph
will be possible near and east of the central mountain chain with
areas along and south of the I-40 corridor expected to experience
the most intense winds this afternoon as a Pacific cold front
races eastward. Extremely hazardous travel conditions are likely
along with reduced visibility in areas of blowing dust for parts
of the Rio Grande Valley and high plains of eastern New Mexico.

...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM MST THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Warning, which is in effect until 7 PM MST this evening. The
Wind Advisory is no longer in effect.

* LOCATION...Northeast Highlands to include the community of Las
  Vegas.

* WINDS...Southwest 25 to 40 mph with gusts to near 60 mph
  shifting west around midday before gradually diminishing late in
  the afternoon.

* TIMING...Winds will continue to strength this morning before
  peaking midday to early afternoon with the passage of a cold
  front. Winds gradually diminishing late this afternoon into the
  evening.

* VISIBILITY...Widespread restrictions to visibility are not
  expected. However, rain and snow showers developing along and
  behind the front may briefly limit visibility to between 3 and 5
  miles at times late today.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Dangerous crosswinds will impact north- south
  oriented roadways, such as Interstate 25. Lightweight objects
  may become airborne.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remember, A High Wind Warning means damaging winds are imminent
or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or
gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

MST THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Warning, which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to 7 PM
MST this evening. The Wind Advisory is no longer in effect.

* LOCATION...Far Northeast Plains as well as eastern San Miguel
  County and Conchas Lake region.

* WINDS...Southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts to near 45 mph early,
  shifting west 35 to 45 mph with occasional gusts to near 65 mph
  around mid day to early afternoon. Winds gradually diminishing
  late.

* TIMING...Winds steadily increasing through the morning hours and
  peaking early to mid afternoon with the passage of a cold front.
  Winds decreasing late today into the evening.

* VISIBILITY...Occasionally reduced to between 3 and 5 miles in
  blowing dust.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Extremely hazardous crosswinds will impact
  north-south oriented roadways. Lightweight objects may become
  airborne. Boaters in the warning area should consider
  postponing recreational activities on the open water.

  the Central and South Central Highlands, Upper Tularosa Basin,
  Eastern Lincoln and Southwest Chaves Counties.

* WINDS...West to southwest at 30 to 45 mph with gusts of 60 to
  70 mph.

* TIMING...Winds will continue to strengthen through the remainder
  of the morning, peak from midday through the afternoon, then
  diminish in the evening.

* VISIBILITY...Could be reduced to 3 miles in blowing dust at
  times.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Drivers of vans, campers, trailers, and other
  high-profile vehicles should be prepared for dangerously high
  winds, especially on north to south oriented highways, including
  U.S. Highways 285 and 54. Motorists in high profile vehicles
  should consider delaying travel.

  mph.

* TIMING...Winds will increase rapidly through the remainder of
  the morning, peak from midday through the afternoon, then
  diminish in the evening.

* VISIBILITY...Could be reduced to 1 mile in blowing dust.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Drivers of vans, campers, trailers, and other
  high-profile vehicles should be prepared for these potentially
  dangerous high winds, especially on north to south oriented
  highways, including U.S. Highways 285, 84 and 54. Motorists in

  shifting west 30 to 35 mph with occasional gusts to near 60 mph
  around midday to early afternoon.

* TIMING...Winds increasing through the morning hours and peaking
  mid day to early afternoon with the passage of a cold front.
  Winds decreasing late today into evening.

* VISIBILITY...Widespread restrictions to visibility are not

  shifting west 30 to 35 mph with occasional gusts to near 55 mph
  around mid day Tuesday.

* TIMING...Winds increasing through the morning hours and peaking
  around mid day with the passage of a cold front. Winds
  decreasing late afternoon into the early evening.

* VISIBILITY...Widespread restrictions to visibility are not
  expected. However, areas of blowing dust preceding the front and
  rain and snow showers developing along and behind it may briefly
  limit visibility to between 3 and 5 miles at times late today.
