...MONTHLY WEATHER SUMMARY FOR FAIRBANKS ALASKA...

SECOND WETTEST JULY ON RECORD IN FAIRBANKS...JULY 2014 WILL GO
DOWN IN THE RECORD BOOKS AS THE SECOND WETTEST JULY OF 102 YEARS
OF RECORD WITH 5.78 INCHES OF RAIN FALLING AT THE FAIRBANKS
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THIS WAS 3.62 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL JULY
RAINFALL OF 2.16 INCHES. THE 5.78 INCHES OF RAIN THAT FELL AT THE
AIRPORT WAS JUST SHORT OF THE WETTEST JULY ON RECORD FOR FAIRBANKS
WHICH OCCURRED IN 2003 WHEN 5.96 INCHES OF RAIN FELL.

A DAILY RECORD FOR RAINFALL OCCURRED ON THE 1ST WHEN 1.92 INCHES
OF RAIN FELL AT THE AIRPORT. 1.44 INCHES OF RAIN FELL ON THE 2ND
OF JULY AND WAS THE FIFTH LARGEST DAILY RAINFALL FOR A DAY IN JULY
AND OVERLAPPED WITH A PORTION OF THE RAINFALL ON THE 1ST FOR A NEW
24 HOUR JULY RAINFALL TOTAL RECORD OF 2.83 INCHES.

SUMMER SEASON 2014 CONTINUES TO BE VERY WET AS THE SECOND WETTEST
JULY ON RECORD FOLLOWED ON THE HEELS OF THE WETTEST JUNE ON
RECORD AT THE FAIRBANKS AIRPORT. AN INCREDIBLE 9.34 INCHES OF RAIN
HAS FALLEN AT THE AIRPORT DURING THE PERIOD FROM 1 JUNE THROUGH 31
JULY. THIS RANKS AS THE WETTEST JUNE THROUGH JULY PERIOD ON RECORD
AND SURPASSES THE SECOND WETTEST JUNE THROUGH JULY PERIOD WHICH
OCCURRED IN 1949 WHEN 7.02 INCHES OF RAIN FELL.  THE SUMMER
SEASON...JUNE THROUGH AUGUST...FOR 2014 ALREADY RANKS AS THE 6TH
WETTEST SUMMER SEASON ON RECORD IN FAIRBANKS...AND DOES NOT
INCLUDE ANY RAINFALL FOR AUGUST...UNDERSCORING JUST HOW WET IT HAS
BEEN SO FAR THIS SUMMER.

PERSISTENT CLOUDS THAT ACCOMPANIED THE ABUNDANT PRECIPITATION
IN JULY CONTRIBUTED TO JULY 2014 RANKING AS THE 19TH COLDEST OF
108 YEARS OF RECORD FOR HIGH TEMPERATURES. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE
FOR JULY WAS 69.5 DEGREES WHICH WAS 3.2 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL
AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 72.7 DEGREES. NO RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE
RECORDS WHERE SET IN JULY 2014. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE WAS 87
DEGREES AND OCCURRED ON THE 6TH. THERE WERE ONLY TWO DAYS IN JULY
2014 THAT THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 80 DEGREES OR HIGHER AS COMPARED
TO 9 DAYS IN JULY 2013. THE LOW TEMPERATURE ONLY FELL TO 65
DEGREES ON THE 6TH AND ESTABLISHED A NEW RECORD HIGH LOW TEMPERATURE
FOR THAT DATE. THE PREVIOUS RECORD HIGH LOW TEMPERATURE FOR THE
6TH OF JULY WAS 61 DEGREES SET IN 1983 AND TIED AGAIN IN 2008.

THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE DURING THE MONTH OF JULY WAS 39 DEGREES
AND OCCURRED ON THE 26TH. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE FOR THE
MONTH WAS 52.5 DEGREES WHICH WAS ONLY SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE NORMAL
LOW TEMPERATURE OF 52.3 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE
MONTH WAS 61.0 DEGREES WHICH WAS 1.5 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR JULY OF 62.5 DEGREES AND RANKS AS THE 52ND
COLDEST OF 108 YEARS OF RECORD.

LOOKING FORWARD TO AUGUST POSSIBLE SUNSHINE CONTINUES TO DECREASE
BY NEARLY 7 MINUTES PER DAY WITH DAYLIGHT HOURS DECREASING FROM 18
HOURS AND 9 MINUTES ON THE 1ST TO 14 HOURS AND 43 MINUTES ON THE
31ST. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE DECREASES FROM 70 DEGREES
ON THE 1ST TO 62 DEGREES ON THE 31ST. THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW
TEMPERATURE DECREASES FROM 50 DEGREES ON THE 1ST TO 41 DEGREES ON
THE 31ST. AN AVERAGE OF 1.88 INCHES OF RAIN FALLS AT THE FAIRBANKS
AIRPORT DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST.

THE FORECAST FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST FROM THE CLIMATE PREDICTION
CENTER CALLS FOR INCREASED CHANCES FOR ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES
AND EQUAL CHANCES FOR BELOW NORMAL...NEAR NORMAL OR ABOVE NORMAL
PRECIPITATION.
