Public Information Statement
National Weather Service New Orleans LA
848 AM CDT WED JUL 20 2016

...New Orleans International Airport has already set a record
number of days with a low temperature at or above 80 degrees for
summer 2016...

New Orleans International Airport (KMSY) has recorded 13 days
with a low temperature at or above 80 degrees so far this
meteorological summer (June/July/August). The previous records
were 2011 and 2010 with 12 days. Records began at New Orleans
International Airport in May 1946.

It is also worth mentioning that the 13 days with a low
temperature at or above 80 degrees at KMSY so far this year ties
the current record in a given year. The current record was set in
2010. So far today, July 20, the low temperature has been 80
degrees. If the temperature does not fall below 80 today, then a
new yearly record will be set.

To gain a longer term perspective on the above records, let`s look
at New Orleans Audubon Park where records began in January 1893.
So far this summer, there have been 8 days with a low temperature at
or above 80 degrees. The record number of days for summer with a
low temperature at or above 80 degrees was set in 1980 with 45
days (yes, 45 days).
