THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE SUMMER AT FORT WAYNE WAS
73.8...WHICH IS 2.1 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE T-17TH
WARMEST SUMMER ON RECORD AT FORT WAYNE. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE
WAS 84.2 DEGREES AND THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 63.4 DEGREES.

9.62 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL AT FORT WAYNE THIS SUMMER...WHICH
IS 2.42 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE 46TH DRIEST SUMMER
SINCE 1912 AT FORT WAYNE.

JUNE

...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND PRECIPITATION...

JUNE TEMPERATURES AVERAGED ABOVE NORMAL IN THE FORT WAYNE AREA WHILE
PRECIPITATION WAS WELL ABOVE NORMAL. THE ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL WAS
IN CONTRAST TO THE SOUTH BEND AREA WHICH RECEIVED ABOUT 2 INCHES
LESS RAINFALL.

THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE WAS 71.2 DEGREES...1.1 DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL. THIS RANKED AS THE 34TH WARMEST JUNE ON RECORD. THE HIGHEST
TEMPERATURE WAS 93 ON THE 11TH. HIGH TEMPERATURES REACHED OR
EXCEEDED 90 DEGREES ON 2 DAYS...THE 11TH AND 20TH. JUNE NORMALLY
EXPERIENCES 90 DEGREES OR WARMER ON 3 DAYS. THE COOLEST JUNE
TEMPERATURE WAS 47 ON THE 8TH. LOW TEMPERATURES ALSO DROPPED INTO
THE UPPER 40S ON THE 9TH.

PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH WAS 5.44 INCHES...1.28 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL. THIS RANKED AS THE 21ST WETTEST JUNE ON RECORD. MEASURABLE
RAIN FELL ON 9 DAYS AND 8 OF THOSE DAYS HAD MORE THAN A TENTH OF AN
INCH. THIS MONTHLY RAINFALL WAS SPREAD RELATIVELY EVENLY THROUGH THE
MONTH.

JULY

...WELL BELOW NORMAL RAINFALL AND SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES...

JULY TEMPERATURES AVERAGED SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MONTH.

THE AVERAGE DAILY TEMPERATURE FOR FORT WAYNE WAS 74.6
DEGREES...WHICH WAS 1.0 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS WAS THE 37TH
WARMEST JULY ON RECORD. THE AVERAGE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 85.2 WAS
0.8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL...WHILE THE AVERAGE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS
64.1 OR 1.4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.

THERE WERE 5 DAYS WITH TEMPERATURES REACHING OR EXCEEDING 90
DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE WAS 92 DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON
THE 12TH AND AGAIN ON THE 23RD. THE COOLEST MORNING WAS ON THE 2ND
WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED TO 51 DEGREES.

RAINFALL...

THE BIG STORY WAS THE LACK OF RAINFALL IN FORT WAYNE FOR THE MONTH
OF JULY. RAINFALL FOR THE MONTH TOTALED JUST 1.12 INCHES IN JULY.
THIS WAS 3.12 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 4.24. THIS RANKED AS THE
8TH DRIEST ON RECORD. THE DRIEST YEAR ON RECORD WAS 0.41 INCHES IN
1974.

THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION TO FALL IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD WAS
0.44 INCHES ON THE 28TH TO 29TH. THERE WERE 9 DAYS WITH MEASURABLE
RAINFALL IN JULY AND ONLY 3 DAYS RECORDED AMOUNTS OF A TENTH OF AN
INCH OR GREATER.

AUGUST

...VERY WARM AND DRY AUGUST AT FORT WAYNE...

AUGUST 2016 BEGAN WITH QUIET WEATHER...AND DROUGHT CONDITIONS
DEVELOPING ACROSS THE REGION. NO MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION WAS
RECORDED DURING THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF THE MONTH. A SLIGHTLY MORE
ACTIVE PATTERN EMERGED DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH...HOWEVER MOST
OF NORTHEAST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO MISSED OUT ON THE BIGGER
RAINFALL TOTALS THAT WERE RECORDED IN NORTHWEST INDIANA.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH WAS TORNAODES IN AND AROUND THE FORT
WAYNE AREA. A WEAK TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NORTH OF FORT WAYNE ON THE
20TH. A BIGGER TORNADO OUTBREAK ON THE 24TH BROUGHT SEVERAL
DESTRUCTIVE TORNADOES TO NORTHEAST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO. THE
MOST NOTABLE TORNADO WAS AN EF-3 THAT TOUCHED DOWN IN NORTHEAST
ALLEN COUNTY...WITH ESTIMATED WINDS OF 160 MPH. THIS WAS THE
STRONGEST TORNADO OBSERVED IN THE REGION FOR OVER A DECADE.

OVERALL...IT WAS A WARM MONTH AT FORT WAYNE. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR AUGUST WAS 75.6...WHICH IS 4.1 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS IS THE
9TH WARMEST AUGUST ON RECORD AT FORT WAYNE. THE AVERAGE HIGH
TEMPERATURE WAS 85.4 DEGREES AND THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS
65.7. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED WAS 94 ON THE 10TH AND THE
COLDEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED WAS 54 ON THE 23RD. THERE WERE 7 90
DEGREE DAYS IN AUGUST...THE MOST IN AUGUST SINCE 1995.

3.06 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL IN AUGUST. THIS IS 0.58 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL...TIED FOR THE 52ND DRIEST AUGUST SINCE 1912. THE
GREATEST 24 HOUR TOTAL WAS 0.96 ON THE 24TH AND 25TH. MEASURABLE
RAIN FELL ON 11 OF THE LAST 21 DAYS OF THE MONTH...BUT ONLY 2 DAYS
RECORDED A HALF INCH OR MORE.
