.The river rapidly rose following intense rain showers earlier in
the day Saturday, reaching bankfull stage and causing minor flooding
in low-lying areas along the river, but the river is now receding.

  - At 8:15 PM EDT Saturday the stage was 8.9 feet and falling.
  - Bankfull stage is 9.0 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to fall slowly over the next
    few days, unless heavy rain showers again develop near Lowell
    or upstream along the river in Lincoln or northern Gaston
    counties, which could cause rapid rises once again.
