Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Northern IL and Northwest IN
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville IL
437 PM CDT Tue Apr 23 2024

.DISCUSSION...
Showers and a few isolated thunderstorms will continue late this
afternoon across northeastern IL in advance of an approaching
cold front. Westerly winds in the wake of this boundary (mainly
areas northwest of I-55) will continue to gust up to 35 mph
through sunset. These winds in combination with low RH values in
the 20 to 30 percent range will result in a brief period of
elevated fire danger through sunset this evening.

This cold front will continue to shift across the area into this
evening, with winds shifting northwesterly in its wake this
evening. Onshore winds will suppress temperatures and mixing
heights for lake adjacent locales on Wednesday, and then lakeside
across northeast Illinois on Thursday and Friday. An active and
periodically stormy pattern is expected to develop Friday through
the upcoming weekend.
