URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE FOR PENNSYLVANIA...NEW JERSEY...DELAWARE...
AND MARYLAND
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ
737 PM EDT WED AUG 31 2016

...DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS WITH ROUGH SURF CONDITIONS CONTINUE AT
THE NEW JERSEY AND DELAWARE BEACHES THROUGH THURSDAY AND WILL
PROBABLY WORSEN OVER THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND...

.LINGERING SWELLS FROM THE EASTERN ATLANTIC DEPARTING HURRICANE
GASTON WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE A NOTICEABLE IMPACT ALONG OUR COAST
THROUGH THURSDAY. THE SWELL SHOULD THEN TEMPORARILY DECAY FRIDAY.

LOOKING AHEAD...TROPICAL STORM HERMINE IN THE EASTERN GULF OF
MEXICO IS FORECAST TO TRACK NORTHEAST...AND BE NEAR THE MID
ATLANTIC COAST OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. THE TRACK AND STRENGTH OF
THIS SYSTEM WILL DETERMINE THE SEVERITY OF THE WESTWARD MOVING
SWELLS IN OUR AREA.

ANYONE WITH PLANS FOR THE COAST THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND SHOULD
PREPARE FOR POSSIBLE BEACH CLOSURES OR RESTRICTIONS. THE HIGHEST
SWELLS...POSSIBLE 6 TO 8 FOOT BREAKERS...ARE OUTLOOKED TO ARRIVE
ALONG THE NEW JERSEY AND DELAWARE COASTS LATER SATURDAY AND SUNDAY
WITH ROUGH CONDITIONS LINGERING ON LABOR DAY.

...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH THURSDAY
EVENING...

A LONG PERIOD SWELL WHILE LESSENING SOME ON THURSDAY SHOULD STILL
HAVE ENOUGH ENERGY, AND THEREFORE A MODERATE RISK FOR DANGEROUS
RIP CURRENTS CONTINUES INTO THURSDAY EVENING. THE SWELLS SHOULD
THEN DIMINISH SOME MORE INTO FRIDAY. SWIM ONLY IN DESIGNATED AREAS
WATCHED BY LIFEGUARDS. SWIMMING AFTER THE LIFEGUARDS GO HOME OR
WHERE LIFEGUARDS DO NOT HAVE YOU IN SIGHT RAISES THE RISK OF
INJURY OR DEATH DUE TO RIP CURRENTS. SOME BEACHES HOWEVER MAY NO
LONGER HAVE LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY NOW THAT IT IS LATE IN THE SEASON.

OUTLOOK FOR THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND...SWELLS ARE LIKELY TO BUILD
EVEN HIGHER THAN WHAT HAS OCCURRED THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS.
BREAKERS AROUND 6 FEET OR A BIT HIGHER ARE POSSIBLE BY SUNDAY
ALONG WITH ABOVE NORMAL TIDES, HOWEVER THIS WILL DEPEND ON THE
TRACK AND STRENGTH OF TROPICAL STORM HERMINE. RIP CURRENT DANGER
AND WAVE RELATED INJURY RISK WILL PROBABLY BE WORSE THAN WHAT
HAS BEEN EXPERIENCED SO FAR THIS WEEK.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IS ISSUED WHEN THREATS SUCH AS RIP
CURRENTS...LONGSHORE CURRENTS...SNEAKER WAVES AND OTHER HAZARDS
CREATE LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS IN THE SURF ZONE. CAUTION
SHOULD BE USED WHEN IN OR NEAR THE WATER.
