OCTOBER IN LINCOLN BROUGHT A ROLLER-COASTER OF TEMPERATURES THAT
LEANED TOWARD THE WARM SIDE...WITH A MODERATE AMOUNT OF
PRECIPITATION ON RELATIVELY FEW DAYS.  THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF
55.2 DEGREES WAS 2.0 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL...WHILE THE TOTAL
PRECIPITATION OF 2.46 INCHES WAS 0.49 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

OCTOBER ARRIVED ON A WARM AND WET NOTE...CARRYING A HEAVY RAIN EVENT
OVER FROM SEPTEMBER 30TH...BEFORE COOLER TEMPERATURES SET IN ON THE
3RD AND 4TH.  A STRING OF DRY WEATHER FROM THE 3RD THROUGH THE 11TH
WAS ACCOMPANIED BY SWINGS BETWEEN ABOVE AND BELOW NORMAL
TEMPERTURES...BROUGHT TO AN END ON THE 12TH AND 13TH WITH ANOTHER
BATCH OF RAINFALL AND TEMPERATURES CLOSER TO AVERAGE. THE FIRST
FREEZE OF FALL ARRIVED ON THE 11TH WITH A LOW OF 30 DEGREES...WHICH
EXACTLY MATCHES THE PERIOD-OF-RECORD AVERAGE FIRST FREEZE DATE FOR
LINCOLN.

FROM THE 16TH THROUGH THE 28TH...TEMPERATURES WERE ABOVE NORMAL ON
ALL BUT ONE DAY...WITH A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HIGHS IN THE 70S OR 80S
FROM THE 19TH THROUGH THE 27TH.  THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 86 ON THE
26TH WAS THE WARMEST OF THE MONTH AND ALSO TIED A DAILY RECORD.  DRY
WEATHER ALSO PERSISTED FROM THE 14TH THROUGH THE 31ST...WITH THE
DISTINCT EXCEPTION OF THE 22ND...WHICH SAW 0.66 INCHES OF RAIN.
TEMPERATURES DIPPED NEAR TO BELOW AVERAGE FROM THE 29TH TO THE
31ST...AND THE COLDEST HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURES OF THE MONTH BOTH
OCCURRED ON THE 31ST...WITH A HIGH OF JUST 46 AND A LOW OF 26.
