...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND NEAR RECORD RAINFALL IN JUNE...

JUNE 2014 WAS A VERY WARM AND WET MONTH AT SOUTH BEND. THE OVERALL
WEATHER PATTERN ALLOWED FOR A WARM AND HUMID AIRMASS TO STAY
ENTRENCHED ACROSS THE LOWER GREAT LAKES REGION FOR MUCH OF THE
MONTH...WHICH BROUGHT PERIODIC SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE
MICHIANA REGION THROUGHOUT THE MONTH. THE MONTHLY RAINFALL TOTAL OF
OVER NINE INCHES WAS THE WETTEST MONTH SINCE SEPTEMBER OF
2008...WHEN MULTIPLE REMNANT TROPICAL SYSTEMS BROUGHT TORRENTIAL
RAINFALL TO THE REGION. IT WAS ALSO THE WETTEST JUNE AT SOUTH BEND
IN 21 YEARS. THE THUNDERSTORM AND RAINFALL ACTIVITY WAS FAIRLY
SCATTERED...AND WHILE PORTIONS OF THE REGION HAD RAINFALL TOTALS
WELL ABOVE NORMAL...SOME AREAS SOUTHEAST OF MICHIANA ACTUALLY SAW
NEAR OR ONLY SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION.

TEMPERATURES WERE ABOVE NORMAL...AND WHILE THE HUMIDITY THROUGHOUT
THE MONTH MADE IT FEEL VERY WARM...ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURES WERE
NEVER TOO EXTREME. ONLY ONE DAY DURING JUNE REACHED 90 DEGREES AT
SOUTH BEND. THERE WERE ONLY 6 DAYS DURING THE ENTIRE MONTH WHEN THE
AVERAGE DAILY TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW NORMAL. HOWEVER...ONLY 5 JUNE
DAYS HAD AVERAGE DAILY TEMPERATURES OF AT LEAST 7 DEGREES OR GREATER
ABOVE NORMAL.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE IN JUNE AT SOUTH BEND WAS 71.4
DEGREES...WHICH IS 2.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE
T-26TH WARMEST JUNE ON RECORD. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURES WAS 90
DEGREES ON THE 17TH AND THE COLDEST WAS 48 ON THE 5TH AND THE 14TH.

TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE AT SOUTH BEND WAS 9.14
INCHES...WHICH IS 5.35 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE SECOND
WETTEST JUNE ON RECORD BEHIND 1993...WHEN 10.86 INCHES FELL DURING
THE MONTH. THIS ALSO RANKS AS THE 6TH OVERALL WETTEST MONTH ON
RECORD. THE RECORD WETTEST MONTH AT SOUTH BEND WAS SEPTEMBER 2008
WHEN 13.92 INCHES OF RAIN FELL. AT LEAST A TRACE OF RAIN FELL AT
SOUTH BEND DURING 18 DAYS OF THE MONTH...AND 13 OF THESE DAYS HAD
MEASURABLE RAINFALL...EACH ONE WITH AT LEAST A TENTH OF AN INCH OF
RAINFALL. 9 DAYS HAD AT LEAST A HALF INCH OF RAINFALL...AND THREE
DAYS WITH AT LEAST AN INCH OF RAINFALL. THE GREATEST 24 HOUR
RAINFALL TOTAL WAS 2.20 INCHES ON THE 17TH AND 18TH...AND THE
GREATEST CALENDAR DAY RAINFALL TOTAL WAS 1.54 INCHES ON THE 17TH.
