FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS AREA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
349 PM CDT THU MAY 5 2016

.DISCUSSION...
DRY AND WARM WEATHER ALONG WITH LIGHT SOUTHERLY BREEZES WERE
PRESENT LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THE WARM AND DRY WEATHER WILL
CONTINUE INTO FRIDAY...THOUGH SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL BE ON THE
INCREASE. EVEN STRONGER WINDS ARE EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND...PEAKING
ON SUNDAY WHEN MUCH OF THE AREA ON THE CAPROCK COULD SEE CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER. THE ELEVATED TO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THAT WILL
DEVELOP WEST OF THE DRYLINE THIS WEEKEND WILL BE NEGATED TO SOME
DEGREE BY THE GREENING FUELS AND WE DO NOT EXPECT ANY FIRE WEATHER
WATCHES OR RED FLAG WARNINGS. HOWEVER...THE FIRE DANGER WILL STILL
BE ELEVATED AND BURNING IS DISCOURAGED. IN ADDITION...A FEW
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG AND EAST OF THE DRYLINE
SATURDAY ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN SOUTH PLAINS INTO THE
ROLLING PLAINS...THEN SHIFTING EASTWARD OFF THE CAPROCK ON SUNDAY.
