...STRONG TO POTENTIALLY DAMAGING WINDS RETURNING THIS AFTERNOON
INTO FRIDAY...

.A potent Pacific storm system is rapidly approaching New Mexico
from over the Great Basin and will be responsible for increasing
winds across the state later today into Friday both ahead of and
behind a Pacific cold front. Windy to very windy conditions are
forecast across far western New Mexico later today, with the
potential for damaging winds across the South Central Mountains
and Southwest Chaves County later tonight into Friday.

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM MDT
THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM MDT
this evening.

* LOCATION...Chuska Mountains and West Central Plateau.

* WINDS...Southwest 25 to 35 mph with occasional gusts to near 50
  mph.

* TIMING...Winds increasing this afternoon and peaking just before
  sunset, then gradually trending down

* VISIBILITY...No restrictions expected.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Unsecured lightweight objects may become
  airborne. Cross winds will pose difficult driving conditions,
  especially for high profile vehicles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists should exercise caution while travelling. Sudden gusts
of wind may cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Extra
attention should be given to cross winds.

...HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY
AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Watch, which is in effect from late tonight through Friday
afternoon.

* LOCATION...South Central Mountains and Southwest Chaves County.

* WINDS...Southwest 35 to 45 mph with occasional gusts to 60 mph.

* TIMING...Winds increasing after midnight and peaking mid day
  Friday before gradually decreasing.

* VISIBILITY...Localized restrictions in blowing dust likely.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Unsecured objects may become airborne, power
  lines may topple over and roofs may be damaged. Power outages
  will be possible. Cross winds will be dangerous, especially for
  high profile vehicles.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remember, A High Wind Watch means conditions are favorable for a
potentially damaging high wind event in and close to the watch
area. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph
or more can lead to property damage. Monitor the latest forecasts
at weather.gov/abq, listen to NOAA weather radio or your favorite
media outlet.
