...Heat and humidity producing excessive heat index values late this
afternoon...

.Dewpoint temperatures in the mid-upper 70s in conjunction with
air temperatures rising to the mid-90s to near 100 degrees as
breaks in the cloud cover occur are yielding excessive heat index
values this afternoon. Heat index values should fall below 110
early this evening.

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening.

* TEMPERATURE...Ranging from 93 to 102, with heat index values of
  109-113.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged outdoor activity without proper rest...
  hydration...or other precautionary actions may result in heat
  exhaustion or even heat stroke.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Heat Advisory is issued when the heat index...a measure of how
it feels when temperature and humidity are combined...equals or
exceeds 111 for 2 hours or more during the day.

Children...the elderly...and people with chronic illness tend to
be affected the most by the heat.  Heat exhaustion...cramps...or
in extreme cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure.
Friends...relatives...or neighbors should check on people who may
be at risk.
