...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1991, four strong tornadoes struck South Central
Kansas.  Hardest hit was the Willowbrook subdivision near
Hutchinson, where 13 homes were destroyed.  In all, the
tornado destroyed 23 homes, heavily damaged 35 more, and
caused $15 million damage.

In 1913, the second deadliest flood in United States
history reached a peak.  Ten inch rains over a wide area
of the Ohio River Basin inundated cities in Ohio,
drowning 467 people and causing $147 million damage.  In
Dayton, the Miami River reached a level 8 feet higher
than the previous record.
