Skies were mostly cloudy for most of the day across western
Kansas before the clouds decreased. Temperatures were well below
the seasonal average with highs ranging from 73 degrees at
Goodland to 84 degrees Elkhart where there was more sunshine.
Widely scattered strong to severe thunderstorms moved east across
northwestern Kansas. Golf ball size hall was reported at Herndon
in Rawlins County.
A weak surface trough will be located along the lee slopes of the
Rockies through Saturday, while a weak warm front lifts north across
northern Kansas into Nebraska. An upper level trough is expected
to move east across the Northern Plains late tonight and Saturday.
Chances for thunderstorms will continue tonight and Saturday
across most of the Central Plains. Temperatures will be a little
warmer on Saturday. Strong to severe storms tonight are expected
to weaken overnight.
Low temperatures tonight will range from the lower 50s in the
Central High Plains to the upper 60s from southeastern Kansas to
central Oklahoma. Highs Saturday will be in the mid to upper 80s.
