...RECENT HEAVY RAINFALL INCREASED THE RISK OF LANDSLIDES IN
WESTERN WASHINGTON...

HEAVY RAIN THAT FELL DURING THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS INCREASED THE
SOIL MOISTURE LEVEL ACROSS WESTERN WASHINGTON. THIS HAS PLACED
EXTRA PRESSURE ON SOIL INSTABILITY. A LANDSLIDE WAS REPORTED ON
STATE ROUTE 112 NEAR BULLMAN CREEK...WEST OF SEKIU...EARLY FRIDAY
MORNING. AREAS MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO LANDSLIDES ARE STEEP COASTAL
BLUFFS AND STEEP HILLSIDES.

CUMULATIVE RAINFALL DURING THE PAST WEEK HAS SOAKED SOILS TO THE
POINT WHERE THE WASHINGTON LANDSLIDE RISK LEVEL WAS MODERATE. A
DRY SPELL IS FORECAST FOR THIS WEEKEND AND THIS SHOULD CAUSE THE
RISK OF LANDSLIDES TO LOWER.
