...SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM IMPACTING ARKLAMISS REGION THROUGH THE
AFTERNOON...
...TRAVEL CONDITIONS NOW POOR ACROSS SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS...NORTHEAST
LOUISIANA AND NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI...

AT 245 PM...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED A LARGE AREA OF
MIXED WINTRY PRECIPITATION INCLUDING RAIN...FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET
ACROSS NORTHEAST LOUISIANA AND CENTRAL AND NORTHERN
MISSISSIPPI...GENERALLY NORTH OF INTERSTATE 20. THE PRECIPITATION
HAS PRIMARILY CHANGED OVER TO SNOW GENERALLY NORTH AND WEST OF A
LINE JUST SOUTH OF COLUMBUS...TO VAIDEN...TO YAZOO CITY...TO EAGLE
LAKE...TO WINNSBORO. THE PRECIPITATION WAS SPREADING EAST...AND
EXTENDED WEST BACK INTO NORTH CENTRAL LOUISIANA.

TRAVEL CONDITIONS WERE REPORTED BY MDOT...ARKANSAS DOT...AND
EMERGENCY OFFICIALS TO BE POOR IN MOST COUNTIES WHERE PRECIPITATION
HAS CHANGED TO SNOW DUE TO ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW...SLUSH AND ICE ON
ROADWAYS. VISIBILITIES WERE ALSO SHARPLY REDUCED DUE TO HEAVY SNOW.
1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW HAS ALREADY FALLEN IN MANY OF THESE AREAS.
SNOW WILL BEGIN TO TAPER OFF IN INTENSITY OVER THE ARKLAMISS DELTA
FROM THE WEST THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON...BUT
ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS REMAIN LIKELY. SNOW...HEAVY AT TIMES WILL
CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL MORE HOURS FROM NORTH CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI INTO
THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE REGION.

FARTHER SOUTH...THE CHANGEOVER TO SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY
SHIFT EAST AND SOUTHEAST ACROSS NORTHEAST LOUISIANA AND INTO CENTRAL
MISSISSIPPI THIS AFTERNOON. WHILE PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN TO TAPER
OFF FROM THE WEST LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...A CHANGEOVER TO
SNOW WITH LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS REMAINS POSSIBLE...PRIMARILY NORTH OF
INTERSTATE 20. UNTIL SUCH A CHANGEOVER... RAIN AND FREEZING RAIN...
MIXED AT TIMES WITH SLEET WILL CONTINUE ACROSS CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI.
ICE WAS ACCUMULATING ON ELEVATED SURFACES SUCH AS TREES AND
POWERLINES. NUMEROUS REPORTS OF FALLING TREE LIMBS AND POWERLINES
HAVE BEEN RECEIVED FROM THIS AREA...AND PEOPLE SHOULD BE PREPARED
FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF POWER OUTAGES.

CONTINUE TO MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS ON THIS WINTER
STORM VIA NOAA WEATHER RADIO...OR NWS WEB AND SOCIAL MEDIA SITES.
