.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 204 PM CDT Sun Mar 17 2024

Showers and a few thunderstorms continue to spread across the
region this afternoon, helping to bring reductions in visibility
and ceilings to MVFR or IFR. After the rain shield passes to the
east, some low ceilings may linger into the evening hours, with a
gradual improvement during the overnight hours. A cold front
sweeps through the area early tomorrow morning bringing breezy
northwesterly winds (wind gusts to around 20 to 25 knots) and VFR
conditions to the area during the mid to late morning hours. /96

.NEAR TERM...
(Now through Monday)
Issued at 204 PM CDT Sun Mar 17 2024

A stalled surface boundary is expected to remain offshore today.
A upper level disturbance is expected to track along this boundary
today with an associated MCS tracking along the Gulf Coast late
this morning through the afternoon. The warm sector is expected to
remain offshore, keeping the risk for strong to severe storms
offshore as well. There is an outside chance that the warm sector
could briefly move into the coast with a low end threat for
damaging winds. There is a Marginal Risk for severe storms along
the coast today. Otherwise, locally heavy rain will be the main
threat especially near the coast where a quick 1 to 2 inches of
rain will be possible with lighter amounts to the north. Overall
expect rain chances to rapidly increase through the morning from
isolated coverage to widespread by early afternoon for much of the
area. A moderate risk of rip currents will be present through
Sunday. A stronger cold front sweeps across the area late tonight
into Monday morning with a much cooler and drier airmass moving
into the area for Monday. Highs today will range from the lower
60s across the northwest to low to mid 70s across the FL
panhandle. Highs on Monday will be in the low to mid 60s. Lows
tonight will be in the mid/upper 40s inland to low 50s near the
coast. /13
